Help Nicole beat leukemia!

Allow me to introduce you to my insanely funny, adorable 10 year old cousin, Nicole.  Nicole, who is always laughing and smiling, loves joking around and being silly, reading books about animals, and like every other child in the world, she can’t get enough of the movie Frozen.

However, Nicole is not like every other child.  Unlike most children, she has been through more in her 10 years of life than anyone should ever have to experience.  Nicole was born with Down Syndrome, and as a baby had emergency open heart surgery.  Since then, she has had two major surgeries on her legs to help her walk, leaving both legs in uncomfortable full leg casts .  But she fought through all of this!

Now Nicole faces her biggest hurdle yet.  It is heartbreaking to say that a little over a month ago, Nicole was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia.  She has been in A.I. Dupont Hospital for Children for a little over a month receiving high doses of chemotherapy.  There have been some complications along the way, but she is fighting it.  We will find out next week how much longer she’ll need to stay in the hospital, but when she leaves, she will have to continue to receive chemotherapy three times a week for two years.

Between the costly hospital and medical bills, and all of her upcoming trips to Delaware to recieve her chemo treatments during the week, finances are going to become very difficult.  I am hoping you can help Nicole and her family with these expenses during this really challenging time.

Anything you can give will make a difference and is appreciated beyond belief.  Nicole’s a tough cookie, but let’s all support her!

Hi Everyone,

It's been awhile so I wanted to update you on our Nicole. It has been a very rough past couple of months for Nicole between the intense chemo and a few infection and flu scares. Luckily, she's on the last phase of the really intense treatments, but she will be getting chemo every day at home until 2017. During that time, she'll stay at Dupont once a month.

As you can imagine, this time has been extremely rough for her family emotionally, physically and financially. As always, all of your help and support has been SO appreciated. Your generosity has allowed her dad to spend quality time with Nicole while she's been in the hospital, missing work in the process. Your love and support has been uplifting and words can't express how much that means to her family.

It is unbelievable what this little girl has overcome and how strong she is! Please keep up the love and prayers as she still has a long road ahead of her. One that she will conquer, and then tell (in her very adorable Nicole way) to "GO HOME". :)

I hope to have some new pics to share next week!

Thanks again,
Valerie (And Nicole!)

Hey Everyone!

Thank you all for your support for Nicole and her family during this fight. Thank you to those who know and love her, and to those who have seen her campaign and have shown support out of the pure goodness of your heart. I realized it's been awhile since I've given an update on Nicole's progress so I am going to do a better job to keep everyone in the loop.
Overall, the treatments have been long and exhausting but Nicole still manages to keep her spirits up! Aside from regular chemotherapy treatments, two weeks ago she was in the hospital with a fever and flu like symptoms. This past week she was in the hospital for one of her high dose of chemo treatments and developed a fever. We're not yet sure what caused the fever this time, but with chemo, you run a high risk of infection.
Once her temperature regulates, she'll need a blood transfusion and then we'll hope that the fever doesn't spike again, and hope even more that she can go home soon.
Through all this, she still manages to smile and laugh and jokingly tell us to "go home" (and then cracks up) when we visit her. Here is a picture we took yesterday. That smile is beautiful and courageous and gives hope. At just 10 years old, she's the bravest girl I know!
Please keep sending love Nicole's way and I know she'll be trying her best to keep on smilin'. <3

Hi Everyone!

First and foremost, thank you so much to those of you who have donated to help Nicole and her family with their expenses, and supporting her during her battle with Leukemia. It means SO much. Second, some great news...Nicole got to finally go home last night after a month and a half in the hospital! She is SO happy to be home (the proof is in the picture), but the fight isn't over. It's going to be a long, bumpy journey, but her smile shows she's up for the fight and she hasn't lost her beautiful spirit.
Please keep up your prayers and support, and share this with your friends!

Much Love,
Valerie
I'm home!!
