Help Luke Beat Brain Cancer
Donation protected
On August 1, 2016, 15-month-old Luke Daniel Phelps was diagnosed with a brain tumor. A few days later, the majority of the egg-sized mass was successfully removed from Luke's head. A year-long chemotherapy treatment will help fight what remains.
Even Luke's happy, giggly personality was overcome by the illness. He's been constrained to a hospital crib for over a week while a surgically implanted tube drains excess fluid from around his brain. We expect he will be home soon, though future hospital stays are nearly certain; chemotherapy will deplete his little body's ability to fight infections and other illness. Though we are optimistic, the long-term side effects of surgery and chemotherapy are still unknown.
Luke's parents, Dan and Leslie Phelps, need your help. Both are elementary school teachers and only receive 12 weeks of paid medical leave between the two of them. With Luke's chemotherapy expected to last a year or more, Leslie will likely need to take an extended leave from her job to provide the full time care and attention Luke requires. Though Luke does have medical insurance, the copays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses add up quickly.
Your donations will help pay for Luke's medical treatments and help lessen the effects of becoming a single-income household. With two older siblings, Luke's family needs the help of friends and family. Please consider making a donation to the Phelps family. Your generosity is appreciated and will have a direct, positive impact on their lives and Luke's.
