Helping to support Young People with Special Needs

Donation protected
We are proposing to introduce alternative therapeutic learning activities and support for special needs children and youths aged between 11-25.  Our purpose would be to use the nature of horticulture, recreation and other land based activities to provide therapeutic support to disadvantaged children and young adults assisting with their academic outcomes and well-being. We hope to inspire children and young adults to be able to excel more from hands on experiences that engages and focuses them, encouraging life skills, as well as social and emotional development.

Not all learning is possible through just an academic approach.  Many young learners find it difficult to read and write, listen and engage or retain high levels of information that they are faced with.  We believe that if they are given an alternative approach, which requires more practical hands on learning they can excel and demonstrate their abilities through art, play, exploration and many other ways which may suit their individual needs.

A therapeutic approach can offer calming and subtle progression.  We therefore aim to; Engage young people in the variety of therapeutic programmes each year, assist families in the growing need of respite services, provide young people with opportunities and living skills to help them help themselves become independent and confident and to create a growing social enterprise based around outdoor activities and further benefit to surrounding education based centres/schools.

We are so lucky to have the opportunity of amazing premises based in the rural setting of Borough Green.  The 'Countryside' setting and outdoor potential is a perfect learning environment for our project, which relies on working with nature.  The provision we propose is ‘unique’ and a significant growing requirement for Special Educational Needs within the surrounding areas of Kent.

Unfortunately, as with all great dreams, comes the ongoing need for resources, set up and safety requirements and support...all at a great expense.  We are therefore looking for your help to succeed in our vision for this much needed cause.

To achieve our aim we still need to adapt old buildings into safe learning environments, introduce adequate security to keep our children safe and secure and make real our proposed activities and programmes with resources, such as instruments, personal protective equipment, reading and art materials, outdoor play equipment, sensory toys and equipment and tools for our up-cycling and forestry school workshops.  The list is endless and your support of donations, no matter how small (and whether monetary or actual items) would be an amazing contribution and the next step to making this happen as soon as possible!
