Helping Lake County Women Period
Donation protected
Now that you’ve found our page, we just first want to say thanks so much for giving our link a click!
On any given day a woman may have to make the choice whether to buy food or to buy tampons, deciding how to ration menstrual products to last the duration of her period. Pads tampons and liners are not often available at homeless shelters. Menstruation becomes not just an annoyance but becomes a mental and social burden.
Helping Lake County Women Period is a project through the Women's Health Interest Group at the Chicago Medical School that seeks to bring feminine products in weekly packs to the female homeless population and women in need in Waukegan, IL.
Our period packs will be distributed to homeless shelters in Waukegan, IL and include 10 pads, 10 tampons, and 10 sanitary wipes, and a small chocolate candy in a disposable zip lock bag. Each period pack costs $3.58!! Even the smallest donation can have a huge impact on a woman's life.
Once we have collected all our donations an interprofessional group of students will meet to discuss the unique health disparity faced by homeless women with a local physician and to assemble the weekly packs!
Tampons and pads are usually at the top of the list of needs at shelters, since they’re pricey and aren't usually donated! Your donations will give women of Waukegan and Lake County one less thing to worry about. Thank you for your support.
No woman should be ashamed, embarrassed, or held back due to her own biology.
