My Dad, Al Carmichael, has been a long standing member of the musical community in Michigan (and other states) for almost his whole life.
He has worked so hard for our family. I’ve always seen him as my hero because he followed his dreams no matter what anyone said and was successful. If you’ve ever seen him play, he lights up the whole room with his guitar and his voice. And that very light is what put food on our table and helped to sustain our family, even putting me and my brother through college.
Musicians do so much for our well being and they help build our communities. They keep other businesses alive. And as you know, there’s no 401k, no health coverage, no PTO pay. My dad needs assistance and I’m asking you to please consider helping.
Al is facing an unfortunate reality of almost a year of downtime from work, due to a serious spinal fusion surgery coming up. This operation comes with tough rules such as no weight lifting over 5 pounds, and no bending down. This means he is unable to work. Together, Al and Nancy (my mom) have kept their finances up as a two income family. Without any income from Al, they will surely fall behind.
Over the years, Al has never hesitastated to answer the call to help others, playing at countless benefits and donating his time. He’s one of the most giving people I know and someone I aspire to be like.
The thought of not hearing him play guitar for months breaks my heart but the thought of him having to struggle even more than the physical struggle he will be undergoing breaks my heart even more.
