Help Gib's Kids

Donation protected
OUR GOAL is to make sure that young learners' stomachs are never empty and that no supply shortage can stand in the way of their learning. Please contribute any amount you can and that will go towards shopping for food and school supplies to stock the shelves.

Come out and join us for a FREE CONCERT to raise funds for Gib's Kids/Lion Pantry! We do encourage those planning to attend to bring cash (for convenience in purchasing concessions or making donations) and a camp chair or blanket. (Some seating will be provided, your chairs and blankets will allow extra seating on the grass)

BACKGROUND:
Krista Gibbons teaches at West Jordan Middle School. About  half of the students at this school qualify for free or discounted lunch.

"Half of Student Population Receives Free or Reduced Lunch
49.8% of K-12 public school students at West Jordan Middle participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).

To qualify for free lunch, children's family income must be under $15,171 in 2015 (below 130% of the poverty line). 41.6% of students at West Jordan Middle receive free lunch.

To qualify for reduced lunch, children's family income must be below $21,590 annual income in 2015 (185% of the poverty line). 8.1% of students at West Jordan Middle receive reduced lunch."

No student should be worried about hunger or not having pens and paper when they are supposed to be focused on learning. Some kids come in the morning without having eaten since they left school the night before or even over the weekend, in some cases.

For this reason "Lion's Pantry" in Krista Gibbon's classroom aims to keep largely non-perishable, packaged food on hand as well as basic school supplies for students from homes struggling financially.
