Help with Vet Bill After Dog Attack
My sweet little Izzy bean was viciously attacked Friday night by a large, aggressive dog being walked by a pet sitter.
I'm working to get things settled with the dog walker insurance and the owner, but it could be weeks before reimbursement. If that all goes well, I'll reach out to everyone about paying back.
Izzy was sitting on her favorite ledge under the bushes in my front courtyard when a local dog lunged at her, grabbed her and would not let go as three adults worked to fight him off. After what seemed like an eternity, he finally let her go but broke her right leg in several places along with a fracture to the sternum.
The vet managed to get her stabilized and she can recover over time, but not until after a full amputation and lots of vet care.
Financially, this is nearly impossible for me to manage. She is my companion who's been with me through so much, I can't imagine giving up on her.
Your help with these bills is greatly appreciated!
The wound around the stump is healing nicely and I suspect we'll get the call for her staple and stitches removal sometime within the next few days. Also, we expect to be getting the Rover settlement check within the next week or two which should help reimburse a majority of expenses related to the surgery.
For now, Izzy begins a month of slow recovery for her dislocated sternum. This means no moving around, so she's stuck inside watching bird and squirrel videos on an iPad for the time being, which she absolutely loves.
Thank you again to everyone who has reached out, donated, or even just thought about Izzy in the past few weeks. She's going to be okay <3
I slept on the floor next to her cage last night and she was very responsive to the attention. She's been purring loads, making one-handed muffins, and flopping around a bit like her old self.
On the financial end, we've begun the process with Rover to get their insurance to cover as much of the expenses as possible, and I'll update everyone once I have more information on that.
Coordinating payment not only on a weekend, but a weekend with a bank holiday, has been especially difficult. But due to large amount of donations you've all contributed, it was enough proof that we have the potential funds to go forward with the surgery, so really we couldn't have done this without all of you.
I really can't thank you all enough for your immense kindness and never-ending cat love. I'll keep posting updates as we find out more, and will post some recovery pictures when I get them.
Thank you all so much for helping me save one of my best friends <3
