UPDATE 25.07.18
We hope there are still some people out there wanting to help out Noy (some more :)) for her last treatments in Vietnam!
Read below for more information.  (Go further down to read the whole story.)

:

It's been a while since we have updated the page, so here are all the new developments that have been going on in the last weeks/months:

Noy has received chemo treatment from a private clinic in Vientiane, Lao. She had 6 sessions with 3 weeks in between. It has been a very tough treatment to go through, but she was brave and came through it with most of her good spirit intact. Her hair is gone, but we managed to get some nice wigs from donors. The expenses for the treatment so far have been covered, thanks to the good harts of the people that heard about her situation. She has responded positively to the treatment and the doctors are very optimistic.

Next and final step will be radiation therapy. The specific radiation treatment is not possible in Lao, so she will have to go to Hanoi, Vietnam for that. The treatment will take at least 6 weeks to complete and her sister is staying with her the whole time. Kim is going to help out, by organizing the trip and the stay. He will pick the girls up in Vientiane after the final check-up at the clinic. He will bring them to Hanoi and stay and assist during the treatments.

We still need money for this to be possible. All the costs at the hospital are covered already, but there will still be a lot of expenses for food, housing, transport etc.

Kim will be paying for his own expenses, all money that will come in through GoFundMe will go to support the girls while they are staying in Hanoi. If you know Nikki or Kim personally, send us a message, you can donate directly to our account.

It's been a though and emotional time for a lot of people, but the finish line is almost there. Please spread the word, and help us beat this thing!!
Much love, <3

26th February 2018

Please take your time to read the message below and know: you can really make a difference!

As most of you know I (Nikki) have found a second home in Laos, at Don Det.

Unfortunately I got some devastating news from my good friend Kim from Denmark. He’s been living on the island next to Don Det, Don Khone, for quite a while. He formed a close friendship with a few local families.

One of them is going through a hard time at the moment. Their daughter, Dok Noy, a beautiful 22-year old woman, had to be operated to remove a 9x5x3 cm tumor from her arm. Unfortunately the first lab report came back from the doctor and it looks bad. It was confirmed that the tumor was malignant and it had already spread around the tissue that they removed. They do not know what kind of cancer it is and what kind of treatment she has to get.

In a week, Dok Noy will go back to the hospital in Thailand for a CT-scan, more tests and an immunostain program that will give the final diagnose. This program will cost about 5.000 baht (€130). After that Dok Noy has to go to a cancer center for radiation and chemotherapy.

It's a very difficult and emotional time for the family, they are heartbroken and scared.

Most people in Laos don't have a lot of money, but in general they are happy without. Money can't buy happiness. But this is a good example where a big bag of money could truly change a life.

There are already many costs that have been made (70.000 baht, which is just under €2.000), and there are more to come. As hospitals in Laos don’t have the facilities needed, Dok Noy and her family have to travel back and forth to Thailand which costs them a lot of time and money.

That’s why I'm asking you guys for help! We can raise together! Every penny counts! The family would be forever grateful and you have some good karma points in store :)

Please donate whatever you can to give this family the help they so desperately need.

Thank you in advance!

Spread the kindness :)

………………………………………………………………………………

Kim knows Dok Noy for about eight years and realized pretty quickly that she was a special, smart girl. She was born at Don Khone, an island in Sipandon, Champasak province. Her family are middle-class people by Laos standards: they are not rich but they get by, catching fish, growing their own sticky rice and harvesting coconuts. They have no steady income and live together with nine people in a house, including Dok Noy’s oldest sister with her husband and their one-year old baby. The grandchildren of Dok Noy’s parents attend school on the island. Most of the parents of these children are working in factories in Bangkok as there is no work for them on the island.

Dok Noy’s parents are, like most Laos elderly, very old-fashioned and trust only the Lao way and the spirits. So it took a lot of courage for them to be able to trust Kim and send Dok Noy to the doctor in Thailand.

At 13 years of age, Dok Noy was more or less running a guesthouse, working 17 hours a day. After finishing secondary school and high school, Kim started to support her financially, so she could continue studying and have more options for her future. She studied IT, accountancy, English and Math. This is extremely rare as most people from that area in Laos only get to finish secondary school and maybe three years of high school. It will give her a lot of opportunities.

Dok Noy now lives in Pakse, the closest city from Don Khone. Here she stays with relatives and finishes her study while getting supported by Kim, who gives her 500.000 baht a month (approximately €50). He would like to give her more now she is ill, but he is retired and has limited funds. Kim is a truly wonderful man who has done a lot for the community and this family. As Dok Noy’s family doesn’t speak anything but Lao, Kim translates all her medical documents and diagnoses (which are in English) for them.

It would mean the world to us, to the Laos community, if you would help out and spread the kindness! We want to raise as much money as we can. If we would happen to raise more than necessary to help Dok Noy out, we will donate the rest to others medical projects, like cataract operations (an eye operation) for the people who need it on the island.

Thank you! <3
