**URGENT ATTENTION NEEDED – October 31st, 2017**
The treatment centre which I have been at for the past four months just discharged me pre-maturely. I am currently stranded in an Extended Stay Hotel in Anaheim, CA. I am in desperate need of continued medical care, and my savings account is very limited and cannot take the strain of hotel costs and further treatment. My name is Ben, and I have an eating disorder.
I was officially diagnosed with Anorexia in 2014, as well as with Major Depressive Disorder, and General Anxiety Disorder the year prior, although I was struggling with the disorder for several years before being diagnosed. These illnesses have resulted in many Inpatient treatment centres and hospital visits, along with impeding my ability to both complete graduate school as well as with gaining employment.
As of October 26, 2017, I have been prematurely discharged from the treatment centre I was at and am about to lose my health insurance. Both of which come at one of the worst times as I’m currently amid anorexia’s deadly grip. Due to the costly nature of treatment, my family is no longer able to financially support me, and I have personally lost my savings to combatting this disorder, as well. Currently, I require the structure and care of an Inpatient/Residential treatment centre. The purpose of this GoFundMe is to help offset the balance and cost of the continuum of care that is still very much required.
Anorexia Nervosa has the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness, with a death rate of 20% for those who do not receive treatment (https://www.mirasol.net/learning-center/eating-disorder-statistics.php). I strongly believe that without further treatment, that I will become a casualty of this disease and if it weren’t for the treatment I have already received that I would have already succumb to the illness. Furthermore, I find myself stranded at a hotel with no one around me, and an ever-decreasing body weight and BMI.
I have my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the George Washington University, and have always had the ambition of receiving a Master’s in International Relations. Upon completion of graduate school, I have always had the desire of working either for a non-profit organization, or a political think tank with a concentration on international security and counter terrorism. I have so much that I want to offer that I am determined to not let anorexia rob me of such opportunities. But I ultimately need your help to keep me on the road of recovery. Fighting these demons requires daily inner strength, whilst working alongside a competent treatment team of medical professionals.
I do not have much left in me, but I want to keep fighting. I know that I cannot do this on my own, but I know together we can beat this illness.
