Support Baby Jesse's Urgent Medical Needs

What Happened

Jesse Caleb Williams was born on December 26, 2018. Jesse is Matt and Joy Williams’ third child. Like the previous pregnancies, this was was normal. Nothing major happened - no concerns.
About two weeks before Jesse’s due date (New Year’s Eve), the OBGYN noticed Jesse had not turned yet. They were concerned he would be born breached. So they scheduled an appointment right after Christmas.

On the 26th, Joy and Matt traveled to the hospital for the scheduled appointment and found that Jesse had not turned yet. It was time for a C-Section to make sure Jesse was not born breached.

A few hours later, after constant monitoring and showing that Jesse was fine, they pulled Jesse out and realized his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck FIVE TIMES and also had a knot. Jesse was choking and his heart had stopped.

The doctors began doing CPR right away. Jesse’s heart was not beating and had no oxygen somewhere between 15 and 20 minutes.
By the grace of God, Jesse was resuscitated. His heartbeat began, but he could not breath on his own.

After the hardest 4 days of Joy and Matt’s life, it seemed that Jesse was not going to make it. The last thing Joy and Matt wanted was to have him live his life in a vegetative state. So they decided to pull off the ventilator and let Jesse pass peacefully on New Year’s Eve - Jesse’s original due date.

To everyone’s surprise, Jesse lived through the night, breathing on his own. His organs began to show better signs, but his brain was still not functioning as it should. He lived, but still in a vegetative state.

The Current State

At this point, Jesse is still in the hospital. They are doing what they can to keep him alive or help him get better. But the reality is that Jesse may never wake up.

Jesse will need to either have a 24/7 nurse by his side or, in the least, have many many visits. He will always have to have a feeding tube and certain machines to live.

Thanks be to God, many of Jesse’s medical needs are currently covered by insurance, but there are many practicalities the family is looking at. Such as a larger vehicle, special equipment, certain type of bed, more attention from Joy, which takes her away from her part time job.

Life has suddenly become very hard for Joy and Matt. While they are trusting in the Lord and thankful for any time they have with Jesse, the road ahead is not easy.

This fundraiser is to help Joy and Matt give Jesse the best life possible, while also making sure they can provide for their two other children as well.

About The Family

Joy is a previous school teacher - like her mother, and now teaches for VIP kids part time. Her father is a pastor and she is the second child of five children. Matt is a chaplain at the state prison in Tallahassee, as well as a part time pastor at their church. They currently live with Matt’s mother as their income has not been able to provide their own home for them quite yet.

During their very limited free time, Joy and Matt are serving in their church rather frequently. Joy loves to teach, sing on the worship team, and serve children. Matt is an ordained minister after some years in the Navy always seeking to bring the good news of salvation and serve his community.

Joy and Matt are currently staying at the Ronald McDonald house near the hospital, spending their day with Jesse. They pray with him, sing to him, tell hime stories. Their oldest, Eva, likes to join them as well. She couldn’t be more proud of her new baby brother, Jesse.

They take each day just one at a time, not knowing what they future holds. The word they hold onto right now is “perspective.” Right now it’s about enjoying each minute they have with Jesse, still praying that he may wake up one day.

If you can find it in your heart to help Joy and Matt financially, it would be greatly appreciated. Help them purchase the new items that they need and help with the time off work right now. Every little bit counts!

With much love from Joy, Matt and their family surrounding them, thank you for supporting Joy and Matt.
