Anthony's Road to Recovery

$20,475 of $25,000 goal

Raised by 257 people in 3 months
Created October 31, 2017
In the middle of the night on Sunday, October 29th, a tree fell on top of Anthony crushing his yurt and pinning Anthony under the weight. He was stuck there, under a massive tree, alone for more than 12 hours before he was discovered by a neighbor Monday morning. When a rescue team arrived, the firefighters had to cut the tree into several pieces before they were able to free Anthony and remove his mangled body. His leg was pinned under the weight for those 12 hours, and right now his team of doctors is working to save as much tissue as possible, but it is still unclear if he will be able to keep his leg.

As Anthony continues to heal, and fight to save his leg, the reality of his situation begins to set in for Anthony, and his friends and family. Anthony is an active member of the community in Bristol. He is a well-known Farrier, a Blacksmith, and a Farmer. The future of these passions and his life’s work hang in a balance. It is certain that his healing process will be long, and that he will be out of work for months as he recovers, and rebuilds his life after this horrific ordeal.

The love and support of family and friends will continue to keep Anthony’s spirits high. There will be more surgeries in the coming days and weeks, and updates on Anthony’s progress will be posted here.  We are asking for any support you can give. In addition to the Yurt all of Anthony's  belongings were destroyed under the weight of the tree.

Prayers will continue, and with the support of money raised through this account, Anthony will be able to rebuild his life and support himself and his sons while he heals and anticipates his next steps.

This fund provides a way for you to share your love and support with Anthony, and we are very grateful. Please give what you can, and leave a message of support for Anthony. We will be sure he sees everything posted here.

An update from Anthony, who continues to be so grateful for the support:

Ok, 5th surgery done. Verdict on the legs usability is still unclear to all parties. But the doctors feel they have done what they can. They want to seal up the wounds with 2 skin grafts the size of a beast rasp. To those outside the Farrier community that is a really big rectangle. This will be done on Thursday. After that it could take up to 15 more days to seal the wounds from infection. Then I'm on my own to wait and try to get the leg to work again. There are 4 main muscle groups in the calf for mobility and stability. So far 1 is fine, 1 was carved out because of rot, and the other 2 are unresponsive. The doctors have said that now it is a hoping/Waiting game and the rest is up to me to will a response into those 2 muscle groups. Eventually I will have to make the call about whether the stump is serving me or not..... its gonna be a long winter.
