Help Get Yemisi home

Please help us bring Yemisi Mohammed nee Talabi home.

Our sister Yemisi Mohammed nee Talabi is detained at LASUTH/LUTH Ikeja, Lagos and her recovery is delayed.

She was an expectant single mum last year expecting twins.
She developed some symptoms around easter time this year  presenting  with an ulcerated leg.

The situation escalated to a critical state in April 2017. Upon becoming quite unwell, her then husband, Mr Mohammed took her to us her relatives and we were concerned and immediately sought expert medical attention and she was admitted at LASUTH in critical condition.

In a flurry of events, the medical team at LASUTH quickly established her twins were stillbirths which were previously undetected and she had developed advanced sepsis and her right leg had become excessively gangrenous. Her twins death  had infected her. Her ulcerated leg was rotting and the dead babies inside her womb were slowly killing her.

She had an emergency CS (caesarian section)  to remove her babies and to save her womb and she subsequently had an emergency amputation of the leg which had gone gangrenous to save her life.

She was put in an induced coma with life support and high level medicines intravenously with intubation for feeding .

The family rallied round and fronted the requested N1 million - (approximately £2450) to the state hospital for her care.

Following the operations, she remained in the coma and on a ventilator with life support care until she recovered. She responded to the treatment for sepsis but emerged with continued other complexities necessitating continued assisted breathing, intravenous feeding and continued antibiotic and analgesic treatment.

In June 2017 a social media appeal was made as the hospital approved her discharge for home care with continued oxygen and medical administration.

At that time, the hospital was willing to discharge her as clinically ready for continued treatment and rehabilitation at home but administratively unwilling as she has now accrued a care bill of just over N7 million above the deposits paid. This appeal raised a further N1 million but was inadequate to satisfy the hospital financial team to release her on personal bond.

On the upside,  shes no longer intubated for food and respiratory support. She is off the ventillator and no longer needs oxygen.  Although she has rallied in the last month her body is riddled with sores and mid stage bed ulcers. She has now had her tracheotomy removed and  consuming semi solids.

Attempts to move her around have yeilded clinically positive results in that she responds with pain and alarm indicating nerve damage is nominal. However she has had no physiotherapy or psychotherapy and as such she is struggling to speak, cannot stand or leave the bed due to pain and mass loss and is in need of urgent care for her bedsores, continued medication, physiotherapy and psychotherapy.

She is lucid but sometimes incoherent and has not yet been told although it is likely she may have guessed that her twins are dead.

Over the last month We have established that she needs support and quick expedition out of the hospital bed and into a more comfortable and stimulating environment at home
we have increased our time with her and as hospital treatment has been held back on most we feed and stimulate.

Shes traumatised and She's trying with our help to mobilise but hospital refuse any more physio etc because the bill is big. She is still in the critical care unit at LASUTH.

We now continue to buy and administer her food, dresssings and medicines daily. We are also trying to mobilise her by ourselves using gentle stimulation as the hospital can no longer give us physio or any care beyond critical.

Daily bill for sundries from outside is N15-30k. We buy her medicines and dressings daily. We are currently trying to plead with the hospital to give us prescriptions as some of the medicines are hard to obtain without prescription.

The bill of 6 million + is growing daily.
In simplicity
Yemisi needs 8.5 - 10 million to get out of that hospital and on the road to recovery
The longer she stays there the more the daily bill. 1 day on the ward is N40-50k ~ £100 or $130
Yemisi doesn't know her babies are dead. We have no other means of financial support.

We are asking for donations for a conservative sum equivalent to N10 million to cover her bill, further treatment and home rehabilitation. This will cover physio and her medicines and some psychotherapy and help us get her home so the next phase of recovery can begin.  This sum we hope will cover physiotherapy, psychotherapeutic support, medical supplies (crutches, wheelchair, specialised foam bed, bed sore supports for her bed, prescribed medicines, vitamins, supplements, dressings - manuka and dry dressings, body care, continued personal care - commode, walking frame, prosthetic rehabilitation and living costs)

At the time of making this  appeal;

The bill of exactly N8,223,800 as at 1 June had been paid up 1.1 Million .

Since 1st June of the N7,123,250 a further 1 million raised through our was paid directly to the hospital.

The outstanding balance is now 6, 123,250.

For each day she remains detained there's a daily charge of N40,000 ~ £100 for bedspace daily and an approximate N20,000 cash spend on medicines, dressings and macerated food supplies per day

I am her sister Janet Talabi pictured with her and as a family we have raised and paid 2 million of the bill but needs your help to manage this mountain. Any amount will help.
