Tobi's Cultural Immersion in China

My name is Tobi Aderotoye and I am delighted to share a cultural immersion opportunity that I have been offered through the Freshman Leadership Academy (FLA) at Howard University.
FLA is an organization that selects innovative, distinugished first-year and transfer students from a competitive pool and allows them to reach their full potential. Throughout the academic year, students participate in workshops, community service events, and activities that allows them to hone in their abilities to make an impact in their communities and eventually in the world.
Six years ago, the first cohort of FLA planned and developed an organized trip to China as an activity. Little did they know, this "activity" became real life. Not only were they Howard students, they now became global leaders.
With the opportunity to travel to China, I am allowed to immerse myself in the culture of the most populous nation and a rising power on the global scale. As a Chemistry and Political Science double major with a concentration in International Affairs, this cultural immersion trip would provide me with actual experience in how the United States and China interact and the dynamics between the two nations. Having the opportunity to learn a culture through immersion is scarce, particularly for first-year students. Being a student interested in foreign policy, this trip to China would prepare me for my future career and actually teach me about one of the nations that I will work with in the future, making me a more prepared candidate for later endeavors.
A magnificent trip such as this one requires great financial support. It is more than visiting China, it is an opportunity for me to develop into a global leader. I am seeking help from people who want to see me further my abilities and succeed. I am fundraising to cover the cost of my air fare, hotel, food, tour guide, and other expenses/incidentals.
