Help with Teddys broken leg

Please help us save Teddy!

Teddy is a veteran WPG rescue who suffered a devastating leg injury on Saturday. He is now facing a rear leg amputation and funds are needed for the surgery.

Teddy, now 11 years old, came to the WPG rescue 3 years ago. He had been the constant companion of a teenage girl who was unable to keep him due to her parents’ divorce and her moving away to college. Teddy was rehomed only to go from heaven to hell; he was placed in a home where he was put in a crate in a dark basement for 10 to 15 hours at a time, only let out to go to the bathroom, and beaten because he chewed the crate and the walls of the basement. As a result, he delveloped severe separation anxiety and became distrustful of men. Not able to control him, this owner contacted our WPG rescue.

Due to Teddy’s advancing age and behavioral issues he was a two-time adoption failure, so he stayed with us. Over time, happy bouncy Teddy returned and he loves every moment of his second chance at life. It is not unusual to see him bounding after butterflies or rolling in mud with happy abandon.

On Saturday we were doing farm work. Teddy was racing and playing with the other dogs when he ran under the tractor and his back leg got clipped by the tire. I immediately took him to the ER vet and was told he has a right commuted femur fracture that requires amputation or euthansia. I got the cost vs. age talk and it was strongly suggested that because he is a senior I really had one choice. To me, just being an "old dog" is no reason to be given up on. Euthanasia is not an option for this sweet senior boy who has finally found happiness only to have this happen.

Surgery is scheduled for 9:00 tomorrow. The initial estimate from Western Vet Clinic, South Bend Indiana is as follows:
$1,700 base cost of amputation for a large dog
$180 pre surgery bloodwork
$120 consult exam
$200 imaging
This doesn't include any extras like post surgical care or medications.

Any and all extra funds will go directly into our WPG rescue funds for other rescues that need help in the future.
