Hey everybody, my name is Dwayne Martin and I'm 28 years old. I have a wife of 5 years and a 4 year old son who I love so much. I have 5 younger sisters and a wonderful mom. I spend my time playing Playstation with my son and whenever he isn't visiting me I draw.
I was born with cystic fibrosis which, for those of you who don't know, is a chronic condition caused by a faulty gene that affects the lungs mostly but also hurts the pancreas, kidneys, and liver. It causes our bodies to produce a thick, sticky mucus that gunks up our lungs and traps bacteria causing frequent, and life threatening, infections. It makes it very difficult to digest and absorb our food, meaning gaining weight is a chore and keeping it on is even harder. I spend a lot of time in the hospital, weeks at a time every 2 months or so to receive IV antibiotics to fight these infections...but doing more is just on the horizon. With CF a lung transplant is almost unavoidable and I have come to that point, but with CF a single lung transplant isn't viable because the remaining lung could spread bacteria to the new lung and ruin it.
As you can imagine the financial burden of having to cover even a part of such a crazy expensive operation is insane. Thankfully insurance comes in to help with the surgery cost, but I will have to pay for recovery afterward. The mounting medical bills and medication costs that I have now will only be compounded when trying to pay for the recovery. With your donations you can provide me with the means needed to keep my family above water. I've been blessed with an amazing support system in my family, but a lifetime of this has left little funds to cover something like this.
