Help Whippet Up's Walter with vet treatment

Donation protected
Everyone's favourite whippet, Walter of Whippet Up is critically ill and receiving specialist round the clock care.

Walter became ill with severe vomiting including blood and diarrhoea in the afternoon of Saturday 16th March 2019 after a walk in the local park with Johnny.

He was rushed to an emergency 24hr vet in Ilford and was treated for hemorrhagic gastroenteritis.

On the 18th March he was transferred to his local vet to continue treatment but unfortunately he showed no signs of improvement and his health began to rapidly decline, showing signs of jaundice and infection with blood in his urine and vomit.

On Wednesday he was vomiting blood and was referred to a specialist animal charity hospital, the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, where Walter underwent scans, x-rays and a blood test. Walter is in the best place but it’s also 2.5 hours away from his London home.

He is still there in intensive care, in a stable condition but his weight is down from 18kg to 15kg, luckily they’ve avoided inserting a feeding tube as Johnny managed to feed him some chicken today.  The vets suspects he has a bacterial infection in his blood stream but they are waiting for further test results to come in.

Unfortunately Johnny has exceeded his insurance limit of £3,000 and the bills are mounting up every day with current costs so far at £5,600. The donations will pay for the costs not covered by his insurance plan as he continues to undergo tests and medical treatment. If we pass the target and all expenses have been paid off Johnny will donate anything left to the hospital.

There is a lot of love for Walter and Johnny in the sighthound community, they have raised thousands of pounds for Galgo del Sol and Candy Cane Rescue.

Now is the time they need some help and support. If you can spare a few pounds to help Walter on his road to recovery and ease the financial worry for Johnny it would be hugely appreciated.

We we will continue to share Walter’s progress that Johnny shares and please keep your fingers and paws crossed for a recovery back to full health.
