Victims of DrunkDrivers-Scholarship

Donation protected
FROM MY DAUGHTER, Rachael Crawford:

Four years ago, three of my friends and I were critically injured when a drunk driver slammed into my car at over 70 miles per hour.  Luckily, we all survived.  One of my friends missed her first year of college, and I had to delay my first semester to recover from my injuries.

When I was finally able to attend college, I suffered physical as well as emotional challenges that resulted in further medical bills.  Although those medical bills have been significant, I was fortunate enough that it did not affect my ability to attend college.  Unfortunately, that is not true for many victims of a drunk driving incident.  An incident like mine, or worse, can burden a family and not allow a student to live their college dream.

Now, I want to help young victims of drunk driving incidents by providing a way to fund part of their education and give them a chance to follow their dreams where they may not have been able to do so.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 for two college scholarships ($5,000 each).  The scholarship criteria follow:

·     High school seniors in the Austin Independent School District (AISD) or Eanes Independent School District (EISD) that have earned a minimum of a 2.4 GPA.
·     Student has overcome, or is overcoming, emotional and/or physical hardship as a victim of a drunk driving incident where he/she was injured, or an immediate family member was injured or killed.
·     Scholarship 1: Student is planning to enroll full-time in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited higher education institution in the United States in a Criminal Justice, Political Science, Sociology or related degree program.
·     Scholarship 2: Student is planning to enroll full-time in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited higher education institution in the United States in a Nursing or related medical degree program.

AWARDS
Scholarships are intended to be awarded spring of 2019 to a high school senior who will be attending the institution of higher education in the fall of 2019.  Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the college or university for the benefit of the student.  I also plan to arrange a media event with the school district, a local news station and MADD to present the awards and provide an opportunity to further the important message about impaired driving.
