Help Veteran SSG Selso Garcia

Donation protected

In May 2018 SSG Selso Garcia suddenly became seriously and unexplainably ill.  He went from being in the best shape of his life to wheelchair dependent within a matter of days. Over the past several months, Selso has spent numerous days in and out of hospitals, emergency rooms, and specialist's offices. He has undergone a variety of medical treatments and been prescribed numerous medications, none of which has worked.  Selso continues to develop new symptoms and has made very little progress toward getting better.  His local specialists are at an impasse and have referred Selso to Mayo Clinic for further diagnosis and treatment.  Right now, the worry is that this mysterious illness is deployment related. His last specialist alluded to burn pits causing delayed illness in veterans much like Agent Orange during Vietnam.  Selso was in the Iraq War in 2006, and, unfortunately, many veterans deployed to the same area have become ill with similar symptoms.  Whether this is deployment related or some unknown genetic disorder, this family needs help so they can move forward.

This illness has been incredibly difficult on Selso.  He has done everything he can to remain positive and hopeful, but the frustration of not getting a specific diagnosis, and the fact that he now has physical limitations weighs heavily on him.  Selso has a wife, Veronica, and two children, Tillie and Sebastian.  They are a loving, caring family, and right now they're in a tough situation.  Veronica is a public school teacher, and she has a limited number of sick days from work.  Selso has been able to work only a few days since he fell ill.  Their upcoming trip to Mayo will be lengthy and expensive.  They will need funds for housing, food, transportation, and possibly missed time from work during their stay.  It is also unclear which medical bills will be covered by insurance and which will not.  Please donate what you can.  This family has been through a lot, and they are scared.  They just want their healthy and happy father and husband back.

The Garcias understand that it is not always easy for others to give.  They want to ensure that in the event not all funds raised for them are used, they will donate the remainder to other veterans in need.  Thank you for your prayers and financial support!
