Help us save Eagle Lake Mississippi

Over 500,000 acres in the Mississippi Delta has been under water-flooded since February. It is commonly known as ‘the backwater flood of 2019’. I live at the most southern end of the Mississippi delta in a community known as Eagle Lake. We are a community struggling to survive.  We are a lake side community with the majority of our residents being retired. We have been flooded with water since late February and have just been informed more water is coming. You see, our government does not work on a pro-active bases-that being said, our county government has done all they can legally do for us (until we are declared a disaster-which won’t happen till the water recedes), and what that have done for us is provide us with sand and sandbags.  So far to date we have placed over 70,000 sandbags (that is not a misprint).  We have been loaned several pumps of various sizes to try and keep the water pumped down- off of roads and out of houses. This is a 7 day a week situation, to keep the pumps fueled and mechanically running, filling sandbags and getting them places and feeding the volunteers that are working feverishly to keep our homes dry.  Right now our plight is the cost of fuel for the pumps and buying the food to prepare the meals for the volunteers.  We are being told we can expect at least a couple more months of high water...and then we will be faced with the long term damage the water has caused. Any and all money that is raised through this Go fund me page will be used to buy fuel for the pumps and food for the meals.  There are many many places  on the internet that tells about our situation- just google yazzo Backwater flooding or the ‘forgotten backwater flood’ or the flooding of the Mississippi delta...
