Dear Friends of Gravito,

Many of you will already know that Gravito was caught in the dreadful forest fires that ravaged Portugal last week. If you have been there you will know that the beautiful retreat centre at Gravito that had taken Shobha and Miguel over a decade to coax into being was more than the sum of its parts. It was more than beautiful, more than a home and more than a business.
Gravito was magic, it just was.

By some miracle the house, barn, showers and yoga deck were left untouched, but the rest of the land has been badly burnt. The ferocity of the blaze has melted their water tank, all of the pumps and most of the plumbing. Solar panels, tools and machinery have morphed into curious ornaments of melted metal and glass.

The incredible tree house that has taken all winter to construct has been reduced to cinders. Nearly every tipi and wooden deck have gone. The magnificent yurt has collapsed in on itself leaving only the alter untouched.

Miguel, Shobha, Saul and Anaya are so beloved of so many people that they don’t know how to administrate the offers of help that are coming in from people around the world. If you know them you will know why. The consensus is that the best way to co-ordinate the help that so many want to give in order to begin the rebuilding process is through this donation page. The family estimate that they have lost about 100.000 euros worth of infrastructure and earnings. It will take them years to recover. They don’t expect anything from anyone, but I know that many of you will want to help them a little on their way. If you want to make a donation large or small you can do it here.
