Hello,
My name is Casey Vickers I’m a sister, a daughter and I’m an office assistant. Recently my little sister was sexually assaulted during her freshman year of college. When she called me I didn’t have a second thought of flying to Florida. I wasn’t going to let her deal with the police, lawyers, paperwork, and emotional trauma alone.
We have done everything there is to do. We've filed for a restraining order, we have been advised it won't be upheld. She had a rape kit done, won't have the results for 4 months. She went directly to the police and identified her attackers (who probably won’t be brought in and are only suspended with due to our temporary restraining order), we got a lawyer, a court date, and removed her from the university she was studying.
Now that we are trying to move forward focusing on how to manage the emotional trauma, the financial trauma is becoming pertinent. I took over a week off of work to help her. My mother and father have put in considerable funds. Between paying for a lawyer, rental cars, and Air BNBs, gas, and food off campus the financial burden has been a difficult one.
We need to move my sister away from her attackers to a safe environment. She has chosen to move in with my grandparents several states away. There she will be able to not only heal from her wounds but also help my grandmother who’s just undergone major surgery and my grandfather who will be retiring soon.
My sister will heal. She’s surrounded by love. We’re struggling but we’re together and we’re strong. Any support you can give would mean everything to my family and I. Thank you for your support in this difficult time.
