#RealNews: Support Student Journalism
Donation protected
This year, TIME Magazine named iconic journalists as the People of the Year after a year of constant attacks on the media and remarkable stories of defending the free press. From the amazing reporting of Parkland students after the shooting that devastated their school to the students of Pittsburgh High School, who uncovered the truth - that their principal was a fraud, this is an important time to be a student journalist.
Our broadcast, newspaper, and yearbook staffs are raising funds to go to the National Journalism Spring Convention in Anaheim, California - where they will meet other incredible students from around the country, like the journalists mentioned above. While the publications programs fund the contest fees, registration, and ground transportation, students are responsible for the hotel and flight. The funds donated will aid in defraying the cost of attendance for each staff member, making it possible for more students to attend.
Hosted by the National Scholastic Press Association, this convention will allow us to take part in many learning sessions and individually compete at a national level in a write-off category of our choice. These sessions will allow us to meet both other student journalists and professionals in the field and to share ideas about themes, design, and the overall effectiveness of a school yearbook or newspaper.
Previous attendees have come back from these conventions with valuable ideas, ready to pursue a career in this important work.
