My Brother Morgan Zigler and I would like to be with my Father for the holidays.  He lives in Kalifi, Kenya and had heart complications 6 weeks ago that rendered him unable to function without medical treatment. Last Saturday Oct. 27th he had a balloon and stints put in his heart as he had one of his arteries blocked 100% and the others were 70%. Needless to say he was barely functioning and able to breath. After, the operation on Saturday, he seemed to be feeling a bit better and my 2 year old daughter and I was able to Skype with him. He seemed to be recovering well and was of high spirits. But today i received an email saying that he had relapsed and was back on oxygen and had water collecting in his lungs. He is also due for open heart surgery in the next 6 months, and there could be many complications, although we hope for the best.

Unfortunately, my brother and I don't have the capability to pay for the trip to Africa to spend what could be our only chance to reunite with our father after seeing him a year and a half ago. I am attending a 2 year Social Work Program at Selkirk College in Castlegar, BC  which will earn me a Human Services Diploma to better my community and small family. My brother also works in the field of social work, he enables children and indigenous youth to learn outdoor skills and reconnect with nature. In this field of work, the payment is mostly job satisfaction and he chooses to live in a yurt at the community learning farm where he runs his programs on Lake Simcoe, Ontario.

Dr. Richard Zigler has touched thousands of lives through his journey of advocating and educating on behalf of people with special needs and stood up to the systemic inequalities that people and children with disabilities faced from the macro to the micro in our communities.

My Father has changed so many lives directly and indirectly and has given himself to his lifetime of achievements. My heart was breaking when he expressed to me that he was scared, the most selfless and strong man, that i have ever known,  So, I reach out to the network of friends, family, old students, old colleges that could help with the possibility of bringing our family together on the winter break. To bring hope,  joy, love and healing.

We would like to leave just after December 14, 2018 since this is my last exam, and stay about 2 weeks. We never know what the future may hold and we are unable to recognize which good bye could be our last.
