Help Us Dig Out Out & Deliver
Donation protected
I was unemployed when I hatched the crazy dream of making premium feed for my fellow chicken keepers. I started by doing deliveries and selling bags from our NE Portland garage in 2008 and with the help of our amazing community, I opened a little shop less than a year later. Against all odds, it thrived and soon we moved to a bigger location down the street. The dream seemed to be within reach.
The wakeup call in this case was literal. In 2014 I reieved a midnight call form the police to inform me that our store's roof had collapsed under a heavy load of snow and ice. I arrived in pajamas and a raincoat to a scene of devastation, a crushed roof and water pouring over my feed.
After several months and much conflict with our insurer, we re-emerged in a new location but never fully recovered. We've gone deeply into debt to keep the store open but there's nothing left to give. We must close the store.
We have plans of a new kind of store that delivers to our friends and customers and hope to sell our feed at other retailers. Realistically, this is a long-shot unless I am somehow able to dig out from our crushing debt.
It's very difficult to say this, but our need is truly urgent and profound. Your help would be a great kindness, not only for us but for my long time employees, Dan and Jeremy, with whom I plan to share this.
That's us at our first little store on SE Morrison and 20th in 2009. My beard was do dark!
