Tyler is a 15 year old sophmore attending Holly Springs High School in NC. On Oct 13th Tyler was heading to school on his skate board. A vehicle struck Tyler. Tyler is currently in the hospital awaiting surgery. He currently has a broken leg, few broken ribs, broken nose, and front of his skull is fractured needing surgery. As of today.... they are looking to try surgery next week. However today his lung collapsed needing assistance.
Tyler is the oldest brother of 3, he has a younger brother - Justin, and younger sister Emily. Tyler's step-dad is full time in a motorized wheel chair and only able to go to the hospital for short periods of time due to his MS. His mother and father have been rotating schedules staying at the hospital.
$$ for gas, food and income can greatly help! His step father does not work due to his disability and his mother currently cannot work.
Thank you all for your assistance and prayers!
I had the benefit of visiting Tyler, Mom, Dad, & Step-Dad at the hospital this evening. Tyler looked awesome after all he has been through. Tylers surgery yesterday went very well. They anticipated it to take about 3-3.5 hours, but it ended up taking just over 4 hours. From my (non-medical understanding)…. Due to the brain swelling it was not noticed that his entire sinus area was crushed. Once the swelling went down, Tyler could breathe air in, but the air was not released out. This is what created the headaches, vomiting, and huge pain he had the other day and the urgency for surgery. The surgery consisted of the entire sinus area taken out and re-built. It is very unlikely that Tyler will have any smell senses. However, a very slim chance that the sinus nerves will rebuild themselves. Several plates were installed in the front forehead area. With all this… I was pleased to see Tyler resting peacefully and every so often speaking to his visitors and being his same charging self.
The family had not seen the Doctors since the surgery yesterday, they are hoping for a visit first thing in the AM.
His family is appreciative for all the prayers and support, please continue to keep Tyler in your prayers for strength and healing.
Everyday can be different and difficult with a TBI (traumatic brain injury). We had good news since Tyler was released last Thursday. Not even a week later, Tyler woke up screaming this AM in pain.
Tyler was taken back to the local hospital today in severe pain. After scans he was transported back to Wake Med Raleigh Pediatric ICU. It was found that air was leaking in and causing pressure to build up around his brain - causing the severe pain and nausea. Tyler will be having brain surgery tomorrow afternoon at 3pm. Please keep Tyler and his family in your prayers tonight and tomorrow!
“Lord, you love our child as You love all children, bring healing to Tyler who is not well. Stay by his side and comfort him though this trying time. Keep us ever mindful of Your loving presence. Bless us with Your powerful healing and comfort us also. Thank You for hearing our prayer!”
Tyler is home! Tyler left the hospital on Thursday and is home receiving treatment. He still has lots of healing time ahead. Tyler will be receiving physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy.
Tyler is still healing from his TBI and still has some short term memory concerns. Right now he has to be continually supervised as he make impulse decisions.
Tyler has always wanted to join the Air Force after school. Last week, an Air Force recruiter visited Tyler and provided him lots of Air Force gear. He was so excited!
Today is Monday and the first day of Homeschooling for Tyler. Tyler will be homeschooled for the next several months. They are hoping later in the year he will be able to return to school for a few classes, and return full time by next year. Keeping his energy up and staying awake after a TBI is difficult.
Days are filled with sleeping, school and therapy. Busy but he still would love to have some visits from friends. Your welcome to visit (maximum of 2 people at a time please). Tyler lives in The Villages of Pecan Groves in Holly Springs. Please call the family before visiting to make sure they are home and not out at therapy.
Tyler still has a lot of therapy to continue for at least the next year.

This news is awesome!!! I continue to pray for Tyler and all his family!!! He will get stronger everyday!!! Keep fighting Tyler
I'm so glad to hear Tyler is doing so well. Could his restless nights be caused by over stimulation through the day? Since he's so early in his recovery, over stimulation could make it difficult for him to get the rest he so desperately needs. I'm excited that so many people love him and are rooting for his healing., but until he's stronger maybe limiting visits to a 30 min interval would be helpful? Just a thought. :-)
It is great to hear the progress on Tyler. praying for more good news and his recovery.
Sending well wishes and saying lots of prayers!
Sending love and prayers your way.
Lisa, Moon, Ed, Justin and Emily, we are all praying and sending all our positive healing thoughts as that Is all we can do right now. Stay strong and give him our best! We love you! Hugs!
