Help ‘True’ Keep His Loving Home!

After a freak accident, his beloved owner’s medical bills are mounting. Supporting True will give him the full board for one year he needs while she heals from her injuries (and figures out a way to pay all her medical bills). Sadly, it was True who inadvertently, accidentally caused her accident. Here’s the story:

True lived the difficult life of a racehorse until he was injured. No longer useful as a racehorse, he was sent to a racehorse rehabilitation facility where he could hopefully be adopted into a forever home. He is a beautiful, spirited and boisterous boy. Although he is very friendly, someone with know-how and experience would be best adopting him.

Vicki, now in her early thirties, has grown up with horses all her life. She is very at ease with them and patient yet strong with them. Now as an adult, she has made a career out of working with them. She has managed several barns over the past ten plus years, even traveling from state to state with them.

When True and Vicki met it was love at first sight. He displayed a special trust for her immediately and she confidently handled him and his strong personality. That was seven months ago and the bond they share is truly special. They are the best of friends. True gives Vicki the sense of purpose she longed for and True flourishes under her care and structure.

Then on January 4, 2017, the accident happened. Vicki was alone and became unconscious for a bit so some of the details are blurry. Here is as near as we can figure of what happened. After a nice ride together Vicki was in the paddock turning True out. True and his paddock mate typically get along but they were scuffling a little bit about their hay. They settled and all seemed well. However, the next thing Vicki remembers is waking up on the ground in pain. True was standing guard over her. He was clearly concerned. We can only assume she was an accidental casualty of the two boys scuffling. She is lucky to be alive.

Hospital tests revealed a minor brain bleed, a fractured sternum, several broken ribs, a concussion and also an orbital lobe/cheek bone fracture that is threatening the safety of her eye and will require surgery.  She is physically battered and mentally struggling due to the concussion. Going back to work is not an option just yet. And when she does it will have to start off lightly.

The bills are mounting. Unfortunately she has no medical insurance right now so there will be an added monthly expense of paying the hospital and for the surgery to come.

Meanwhile True’s care remains Vicki’s most important concern. The thought of not being able to afford his care/board is heartbreaking to her. The separation would be damaging to both of them. He is well loved and wanted and has a wonderful, forever home otherwise.

In a time when there are so many unwanted animals out there wishing for homes or being euthanized because there are no homes for them, this situation is particularly sad. If anyone understands that and wants to help, we would be so very, very grateful. Keeping True and Vicki together would be a saving grace for both of them. Any amount will help. Thank you so very much.

Sincerely,
Michelle
I have known Vicki since she was three. I was her teenage babysitter. She is an absolutely beautiful young woman, inside and out, with a heart of gold. (P.S.-I don't have a Facebook account to verify me, but I promise that this is 100% legitimate).
