Help Trinity Find Housing during Title IX Suit
Hey there, some of you know me as Trinity, others as JG (and others still by my dead name): I’m asking for your help while looking for stable housing and a job.
It’s a struggle for me to open up about this, but I’ve been homeless since early August, and it’s become next-to-impossible for me to focus on securing a job or other work-related endeavors without having somewhere warm to go home at night. I’ve instead found myself scrambling most nights for a friend to let me crash on their couch. As it gets colder and colder, however, I know I can’t continue this: I need to find and secure a room to sublet for the winter months. The least it will cost me is somewhere in the vicinity of $3k.
It was about a year ago or so that I really should have set up this GoFundMe for transition-related expenses. At that time I used up all of my savings on electrolysis (around $3k or more). I have to refrain from disclosing too much information about different legal matters I face against discrimination at this time, but long story short, it’s been an uphill battle for me on countless levels since February of this past year.
Many of you probably know me from my social media presence on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/transyogagirl/ or @transyogagirl on the app) where I’ve tried to own my mind and body throughout the struggles I’ve faced since I was outed at my prior job as transitioning in March of 2018. I went to that social media outlet in order to share my yoga practice with others, something I now view as largely a healing process from everything I suffered during many of those struggles. Almost exactly a year later I was fired from my job, served an eviction notice, and couldn’t find gainful employment due to an ever-dwindling network. So here I am trying to open up again about all the hardships I’ve faced for the past year and a half or more.
Long story short I'm looking for help with housing and securing a job right now. I have a BA and MA from NYU, but because of these various difficulties, I lost many of my contacts in academia that would otherwise serve as references in the hiring process. I have friends who've offered a place for me to stay until mid-November, and with your help, I should be able to find and pay for a sublet by that time while still looking for, if not securing, a stable job by then.
