Help Traian Sturza purchase his First Bassoon!

Hello All,

I started playing the Bassoon in 2007 at the age of 10, when I began studying at the National High School of Arts in Iasi, Romania. The profound impression that the bassoon left on me is something I will never forget, and falling in love with this wonderful instrument was easy, as I was lucky enough to have one of the most passionate and motivating instructors. Not too long after starting, there was little to no place in my imagination for a career other than professional musician and bassoon player.

Here I am Playing the second movement of C. Saint-Saens's Sonata for Bassoon

After 8 years of study in Romania, I moved to The United States of America, and am currently one semester short of completing a Bachelor Degree in Music Performance at the Schwob School of Music in Columbus, Georgia. I came to the US with high hopes, an open mind and the motivation to make something out of myself. The only thing I didn't bring was a Bassoon. For the last 4 years, I have been playing on a Fox 601, instrument which was lent to me by the university, but with graduation coming up in May, the need for another instrument is pressing. This is where your generosity comes in play.

I started pursuing this path 11 years and 4 months ago, and it is surprising for many to find out that in all these years I never played on a bassoon that I could call my own. To complete the next steps in my development as a musician, I need to have the stability of a reliable personal instrument without which I could miss important opportunities. For example, conservatories all across Europe usually hold auditions in Summer(June- July). While not all of them lend instruments to students, the ones which do wouldn't matter, given that the audition dates are after the time for me to return the bassoon to my current university has come. With your generosity, I would be able to reach my full potential by tackling every challenge confidently. The bassoon is the tool I use to express my musical ideas and no matter how big a challenge, I would be assured that my music making is safe because I can rely on my own bassoon through success and failure.

The third movement of J.S Bach's Sonata in D Major for Viola da Gamba and Continuo BWV 1028

The goal I set does not reflect the entire cost of the instrument, but it is what I believe I need, in combination with my own savings, in order to purchase a suitable used bassoon in today's market. A quick look at online listings of reputable sellers like Midwest Musical Imports, Charles Double Reeds and Double Reed UK or even listings by individuals on Musical Chairs can give you an idea of the average price on used professional bassoons.

Here I am playing Kirk O'Riordan's Temptation, a beautiful piece of contemporary music.

Thank you so much for your attention. It would mean the world to me if you could help me achieve this dream and offer me a hand in creating my future. Please do share this campaign with everyone you see fit. For more recordings of my playing, you can visit my YouTube Channel and SoundCloud Page.
