Help Tom beat cancer #teamtom

Donation protected
Cancer, our family has been struck by this disease. Our selfless Tom is now fighting for his life. We are creating this account to allow Tom, Alicia and their two boys some financial relief as Tom has been mostly out of work since April and will continue to be mostly out of work for at least the next year. Tom will apply for social security disability but it is a 5 month wait for approval and it will NOT retroactively pay according to the social worker.

Tom has been diagnosed with a blood cancer called Myelofibrosis. Specifically a rare and aggressive type of myelofibrosis- called triple negative myelofibrosis. This means that Tom will have a bone marrow transplant at OHSU in less than six months. He will be admitted to OHSU for a month and then he and his wife Alicia will need to stay in the vicinity of the hospital for one to two months after that. The first week he will receive chemo to wipe out his existing bone marrow, and then he’ll receive the transplant and stay in the hospital for close monitoring. The two to three months after that he will need a 24-7 caregiver and will visit the hospital two to three times per week. Basically, Tom and Alicia will be living in Portland for up to three months.

What started with being admitted to the hospital for anemia then possible cardiac issues turned into something very scary and deadly. So far Tom has spent five days in the hospital, has had tons of doctor appointments and other visits to the ER, along with major weakness and pain. He has dealt with several blood transfusions, thrombophlebitis and blood clots from his PICC line, an enlarged spleen, joint and hip pain to the point where he was unable to get up from a sitting position without help, and general overall weakness and weight loss. His symptoms are mostly controlled now by medications but that is just a for now band-aid. Every day brings a new challenge it seems.

Tom is the most caring person you would ever meet. He would never ask for help. It took a lot of conversations with he and Alicia to allow us to set this go fund me up.

Anything you can donate is appreciated more than you will ever know.

Please keep Tom and his family in your thoughts.
