Help these Nepali kids get an education!!

OUR STORY
We are Lia, Manuel and Paula; three volunteers from Spain who had a life changing experience volunteering for a month last summer in Nepal. During this month we were part of a micro-project organised by an established NGO in which we taught children in a school of the village of Changunarayan and we also had the goal of painting the school. After the first day it became clear painting the school was most definitely not what the school needed the most. The sanitation and general health of the kids was deplorable, the food they were given as lunch was a handful of “Seeds” in a newspaper, the bathroom was in a terrible condition (most kids did not even want to go inside), the water they drank was not potable and was stored in a litter bin, the uniforms were all broken and the kids didn’t wear underwear because they could not afford it. We were disheartened by this situation, but most of all by our inability to do many of the things we wanted to do and we thought would have a tremendous impact and be sustainable. Thus, because we fell in love with the kids and the school and we see so much potential for improvement we decided to go back to Changunarayan in Summer 2019 with our own project to try and maximise the impact for the kids.
—We are now in the process of registering our own charity (“asociación” in Spanish) called Saraswati .—
OUR PROJECT
Now, on to the project!
1. Construction
- Build a roof on the third floor. The school is very small and the third floor is not being utilised partly because there is no roof and in the months of monsoon, it is barely usable. - 4500 USD
- Provide basic kitchen utilities so that the students can have a proper nutritional lunch. - 500 USD
- There is a perfectly usable classroom which is now used for storage and we would like to convert that into a dining hall so that kids have a chance to sit down and eat. - No relevant cost
2. Workshops
- Have hygiene and health workshops focused on oral hygiene, provide them with toothbrushes and toothpaste. Every kid had multiple
- Have art workshops (since the kids have no other creative outlet) on painting and dancing.
- Lice workshop. We would buy lice removing product and handle that process for the kids. We did this last year and the kids and the teachers were incredibly grateful. Sometimes in the developed world we think that people with limited resources do not prioritise/enjoy being clean and that could not be farther from the truth. - 100 USD
3. Salary of:
- A person to maintain the bathrooms clean who would go on a bi-weekly basis and cook for the kids every day.
- A qualified english teacher to give the kids valuable skills. There are two teachers in the school but they have a very very low level of English.
Salary is based on Nepal's average wage - around 120 USD/month
We have worked closely with Rakesh (founder of a local NGO) to develop this project in order to make it sustainable and make sure we maximise its impact.
The majority of the kids in Nepal do not go on to study secondary education because either they see no value to it or they are forced to work, We want to give the kids a safe and clean environment for them to fall in love with learning and have a place where they can clean themselves eat at least one decent meal a day.

Somos Lía, Manuel y Paula; tres voluntarios de España quienes hemos tenido una experiencia de voluntariado de un mes en Nepal el pasado verano, y que nos cambió la vida. Durante este mes fuimos parte de un micro-proyecto, organizado por una ONG establecida, en el que enseñamos a niños en la escuela de una aldea de Changunarayan y donde también teníamos la meta de pintarla. Después del primer día quedó claro que lo que el colegio más necesitaba no era especialmente pintarlo. La sanidad y la salud general de los niños era deplorable, la comida que se les daba de almuerzo era un puñado de “semillas” en un periódico, el baño estaba en unas condiciones terribles (incluso la mayoría de los niños no querían entrar), el agua que bebían no era potable y se guardaba en una papelera, los uniformes estaban rotos y los niños no llevaban ropa interior porque no se lo podían permitir.
Estabamos con el corazón roto debido a la situación y sobretodo por nuestra inhabilidad de hacer algo al respecto en ese momento. De este modo, como nos enamoramos de los niños y de la escuela, y vimos tanto potencial para mejorarla que hemos decido volver a Changunarayan en este verano 2019 con nuestro propio proyecto para intentar aprovechar al máximo el impacto en los niños.

Construcción
Construir un tejado en el tercer piso. La escuela es muy pequeña y el tercer piso no se está usando porque no hay un tejado y en los meses de monzón es apenas utilizable. - 4500 USD
Proporcionar utensilios básicos de cocina para que así los niños puedan tener una comida nutricional apropiada. - 500 USD
Hay una clase perfectamente utilizable que ahora se usa como almacén y que podríamos convertila en un comedor para que los niños tengan la oportunidad de sentarse y comer.
Talleres
Tener talleres de higiene y salud centrados en la higiene oral, proporcionándoles cepillo y pasta de dientes. Cada niño tendrá varios.
Tener talleres de arte (los niños no tienen ninguna salida creativa) como pintura o baile.
Taller para despiojar. Compraremos productos para despiojar y haremos todo el proceso a los niños. Lo hicimos el año pasado, los niños y los profesores estuvieron muy agradecidos. - 100 USD
A veces, en los países desarrollados pensamos que la gente con recursos limitados no prioriza/disfruta de estar limpio y esto no podría estar más lejos de la verdad.
Salario para:
Una persona que mantenga los baños limpios que irá en base a dos veces por semana.
Un buen profesor de inglés para enseñar a los niños buenas habilidades. Ya hay dos profesores en la escuela pero tienen muy muy poco nivel.
El salario está basado en el salario medio de Nepal, unos 120 USD/ mes
Hemos trabajado muy de cerca con Rakesh (el que gestiona la ONG local) para desarrollar este proyecto, para hacerlo sostenible y asegurarnos de maximizar el impacto.
