Help for The Hammonds

UPDATE

It has been 9 months since the accident. Time has passed, but pain and hardship still remain. Erica continues struggling daily with severe back and knee pain. With costly physical therapy for some months, the pain still lingers. At the most recent checkup to access progress, Erica was told she will need another back surgery. As if that devastating news was not enough, the cost will be $6,000. This will be added to their already mounting medical debt of $20,000. Kelly continues to work his hardest to support them both and their son in college, but Erica has officially lost the job she had before the accident due to her handicap.

Any donations you could contribute would be so much appreciated. Please share this with anyone you feel could possibly help, this family needs it. Not only that, they are the most hard working people and greatly deserve any help that you could send their way.

Blessings to you all.

The Accident

On August 13th, 2018, the Hammond family was driving to Dublin, TX to meet a fellow colleague for lunch. Their 17 year old son, Seth, was driving when the pickup truck in front of them quickly swerved out of the way into the left lane. In the blink of a eye the reason was clear. An 18-wheeler was at a dead stop right in their path. Going around 65mph, they collided right into the back end of the massive semi-truck.

Grateful to all be alive, Seth walked away with only a minor wrist injury. His parents were not so lucky..

Kelly suffered a broken collar bone and a L1 fracture to his back. Erica suffered a double fracture of the tibia on her left leg. Also, her L5 was completely separated and shattered in her lower back. This required immediate spinal surgery to repair.

Recovery will be a long and difficult road for this sweet couple. With their son starting college this fall at Tarleton State, the financial burdens are piling quickly. They will soon be leaving their home to live with more full time care.

Kelly returned to his job as an adjunct instructor a mere week after the collision, being strong and trying to push through the pain. A job without benefits of any kind. However his workload has doubled as he has taken on Erica’s classes not knowing when she will be able to return. Losing these jobs is not an option for them. Their only other source of income was their lawn care business, which is now, unavoidably, shut down.

We have started this GoFundMe with the hopes of taking at least a small part of these upcoming financial strains off of their shoulders.

Please help us spread the word and any gifts of any size would be gratefully appreciated. Let's help the Hammond family get back on their feet.

Blessings!
