This Go Fund Me Page is intended to reach the family, friends, colleagues, current and past athletes, MU Alumni, and supporters of the MU Track and Field Program whom have been impacted by the beloved throws coach Abraham Flores. It is safe to say with over 20+ years of coaching experience, Coach Abe Flores has impacted hundreds of athletes, inspired generations of coaches, and provided support to endless family members and spectators of the sport. If you do not know Coach Abe Flores; know he is a man of few words but with just a few words he manages to show such compassion and empathy that his few words will always hold dear to your heart. Coach Abe Flores has been a father figure, mentor, and inspiration to so many lives in the sport of track & field that he is frequently referred to as one of the greatest collegiate throws coaches the country has to offer. Coach Abe Flores has managed to lead countless athletes to All-American status not only on the field but in the classroom as well. It is no secret that Coach Abe Flores is an amazing man, but now it is our turn to show our appreciation and support to such an amazing man.
2018 has presented many adversities to Coach Abe Flores. This past February, Coach Abe Flores went to the hospital to address some back and leg pain he was experiencing. He would soon learn that his life was going to change drastically and not for the better. Just a week after he and his throwers helped the team win the MAAC Indoor Championships, he had to put aside what he truly loved to take care of his health. He was immediately rushed into a critical spinal surgery with only a 10% chance of him ever walking again. Though this situation would be enough to discourage even the strongest person, Coach Abe was selfless, and had hoped to get back to practices and track meets to support his athletes before the spring was over. Still suffering with his back condition Coach Abe was diagnosed in April with kidney cancer and endured 2 additional major back surgeries. Coach Abe Flores has had the support of his family, peers, athletes, and staff of the Monmouth University Community through these endeavors. But it is fair to understand that support, cards, and flowers can never settle the debt of haunting medical bills and expenses a person may endure in such a time of need.
This is why we are asking for your GENEROUS donation today. It is our goal to raise $10,000, which is only a portion of Coach Abe Flores’ medical expenses. All donations will be presented to Coach Abe Flores. We are thankful that Coach Abe is now in rehab near his family in California, and we appreciate your efforts to assist him in his long road to recovery.
