¡Hello everyone! I am Estefanía Sucre Rosales, MSc. in Chemistry from Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB), Venezuela. I am very excited because I was admitted to pursue a PhD at University of Central Florida (UCF), beginning on august this year. I am counting on your support to achieve this academic goal!
As the daughter of a Professor from USB, I have always loved science, so I really enjoyed carrying out my Undergraduate Studies at USB. During the time, I was an undergraduate Teaching Assistant in several Chemistry Laboratory courses and some Physics courses as well. Moreover, I participated as creator of Chemistry educational material for the Interactive Museum “Didactrón”, which aims to bring science to school children from across the country.
In 2014, I was happy to win the prize for the Best Student (BSc. in Chemistry) awarded by the Deanship for Professional Studies of the USB. Here is the link to USB news (in Spanish):

In March 2016, I graduated as a BSc. in Chemistry, with the highest score (GPA) of that term in this study program.
The same year, I continued my studies at my Alma mater, enrolling in the Chemistry Master’s Program in the Physical Chemistry Section; and becoming a Graduate Teaching Assistant, having the pleasure to teach undergraduate students in several Chemistry Laboratory courses.
During this time, I had the honor to be the only Venezuelan winner of the full scholarship for the two last editions of the Sao Paulo Schools for Advanced Science (SPSAS) in Nanophotonics (2016) and Lasers and their Applications (2018). These were held, together with the Jorge André Swieca School on Nonlinear and Quantum Optics, at UNICAMP and the IPEN at Sao Paulo University (Brasil), respectively. In November, 2017, I was one the two Venezuelans, both from the USB, to be chosen with a scholarship to participate in the VII Nanoandes School, held at Universidad of Buenos Aires (UBA, Argentina), where we studied Nanotechnology applied to energy and medicine. During my Undergratuate studies, I also studied Piano at the Prudencio Esáa Music School, participating in several concerts.
I was also part of the artistic movement at the USB, taking part in two art exhibitions at the Magic of Art series (“La Magia del Arte”) at the USB Library. The last one, entitled “Toujours Moi” (2018), was a tribute to Professor Fernando Carrizales; and I was invited by Prof. Elizabeth Forero de Uribe. Here is the link to USB news (in Spanish):

Recently, I finished and approved my Master Thesis, in which I studied Intramolecular Charge Transfer Phenomena in organic dyes, obtaining an Outstanding Mention, which allowed me to graduate with Honors as MSc in Chemistry in May this year (2019).
I am very grateful and proud from graduating twice at the USB. My university has given me the opportunity to grow and train in the Science of Change, Chemistry.
To my beloved university I owe all the tools and knowledge with which I had managed to travel all this way! Nevertheless, my quest for pushing forward the frontiers of knowledge, the main goal for every scientist, has been truncated by the scarcity of resources, chemicals and equipment that every Venezuelan university suffers.
For this reason, I applied to University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando, because this institution gives me the opportunity to train, as I always desired, in Laser Chemistry and cutting-edge spectroscopic techniques, which are not available in Venezuela.
I was accepted for a PhD at UCF, to start in fall semester 2019, beginning in august this year. This is an invaluable opportunity to achieve my goals as a scientist! Additionally, the UCF offered me the opportunity for funding, working as a Teaching Assistant, so they will cover both the tuition fees and living costs starting from the second month of studies.
Due to the delicate political situation of my country, the US Embassy closed their doors in Venezuela, so I must travel to Bogota, Colombia to apply for the student visa of the United States.
However, due to the actual economic crisis in Venezuela, my family does not have the economic resources for buying neither the Caracas-Orlando plane ticket, nor for the mandatory trip to Bogota and neither to cover the first two months of living expenses that I will need until I receive the funding paycheck.
In summary, I need a total of $ 3200, distributed as follows:
$ 400 for the trip to Bogota
$ 600 for the Caracas-Orlando plane ticket
$ 2200 for living expenses of the first two months in Orlando
I really appreciate any collaboration that you can give to me: you may donate or share this campaign with your friends and relatives, so I can turn into reality my dream of studying my PhD at UCF and to keep training as a scientist.
In this way, I will be able to further contribute with the research and development of new knowledge, which are essential for the future and have applications in several fields, medicine among them. Any contribution is welcome!

¡Hola a todos! Soy Estefanía Sucre Rosales, Magíster en Química egresada de la Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB). Como hija de un Profesor de la USB, desde siempre he amado las ciencias, por lo que realmente disfruté cursar mi pregrado en la Simón siendo preparadora de diversos Laboratorios de Química y algunos cursos de Física. Asimismo, participé como creadora de material de Química para el Museo Interactivo Didactrón, que enseña ciencia a niños y adolescentes de todo el país.
Tuve además la dicha de ganar el premio a la Mejor Estudiante 2014 (Licenciatura en Química), otorgado por el Decanato de Estudios Profesionales de la USB. En 2016 continué mis estudios en mi Alma Máter, ingresando a la Maestría en Química en la sección de Fisicoquímica, y sirviendo como Ayudante académico, teniendo el placer de impartir conocimientos a estudiantes de pregrado en laboratorios de química.
Durante este tiempo, tuve el honor de ser la única venezolana ganadora en las dos últimas ediciones de la beca para las escuelas de Sao Paulo en Ciencia Avanzada (SPSAS). La primera sobre Nanofotónica (2016), y la segunda sobre Láseres y sus aplicaciones (2018). Ambas se llevaron a cabo, junto con la Escuela de Óptica Cuántica y no Lineal Jorge André Swieca, en UNICAMP y en el IPEN en la Universidad de Sao Paulo (Brasil), respectivamente. En esta última, mi trabajo en formato de póster fue premiado con mención honorífica:

Simultáneamente con mi Pregrado, cursé estudios de piano en la Escuela de Música Prudencio Esáa, participando en varios recitales y conciertos. Recientemente, defendí mi Tesis de Maestría, en la cual estudié el fenómeno de Transferencia Intramolecular de Carga en colorantes orgánicos, obteniendo una Mención Sobresaliente, con la que me gradué con Honores como Magíster en Química en mayo del presente año.
Estoy muy agradecida y orgullosa de haberme graduado dos veces en mi Alma Máter, la USB, la cual me brindó la oportunidad de crecer y formarme en la ciencia del cambio, la Química.
¡A mi amada universidad le debo todas las herramientas y el conocimiento con el que he logrado recorrer todo este camino!
Sin embargo, mi búsqueda de traspasar las fronteras del conocimiento, labor de todo científico, se ha visto truncada por la falta de recursos, reactivos y equipos que padecen todas las universidades venezolanas.
Debido a esto, apliqué a la Universidad de Florida Central (UCF), en Orlando, ya que esta institución me brinda la oportunidad de formarme, como siempre he deseado, en Química Láser y en técnicas espectroscópicas de punta, las cuales no se encuentran disponibles en Venezuela.
Fue así como resulté admitida en el Programa de Doctorado (PhD) a iniciarse en agosto del presente año, ¡lo cual constituye una oportunidad invaluable para cumplir mis metas como científico!
Adicionalmente, la UCF me ofreció la oportunidad de una beca para trabajar como Asistente de Enseñanza (Teaching Assistant) de forma remunerada, así que podré cubrir la matrícula y mis gastos a partir del segundo mes de estudios.
Dada la delicada situación política que atraviesa mi país, la Embajada de los Estados Unidos cerró sus puertas en Venezuela, por lo cual he de viajar previamente a Bogotá para solicitar la visa de estudiante para los Estados Unidos.
Sin embargo, debido a la situación económica actual de Venezuela, mi familia no tiene los recursos para la compra del pasaje Caracas-Orlando, ni para el viaje a Bogotá, ni para cubrir los dos primeros meses de alojamiento y comida que necesitaré mientras se hace efectivo el pago de mi beca. En resumen, necesito de 3200 $, distribuidos de la siguiente forma:
400 $ para el viaje a Bogotá.
600 $ para el boleto de avión a Orlando.
2200 $ para mis gastos de los dos primeros meses en Orlando.
Les agradezco cualquier colaboración que puedan otorgarme, ya sea donando o compartiendo esta campaña con sus amigos y conocidos, de forma que pueda cumplir mi sueño de estudiar mi PhD en la UCF y seguir formándome como científico, para así seguir contribuyendo con la investigación y el desarrollo de nuevos conocimientos, vitales para el futuro y aplicables en diversos campos, entre ellos el de la salud.
