Our big brother and best friend, Nick Montanari was recently diagnosed with Stage 2 Primary mediastinal Large B-cell lymphoma.
PMBCL is an aggressive type of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma that develops from the B-cells in the lymphatic system. Nick was also diagnosed with Superior vena cava syndrome.
SVC syndrome is a group of symptoms caused by obstruction of the superior vena cava, a short vessel carrying circulating blood into the heart.
As soon as he was diagnosed, they immediately admitted him into the hospital for his 1st cycle of "R-Epoch" chemotherapy treatment. This chemo regimen consists of 24 hours continuous treatment for 5 days. Day 1 is Rituxan, days 2-5 are Etoposide Phosphate, Prednisone, Vincristine Sulfate (Oncovin), Cyclophosphamide and Doxorubicin Hydrochloride (Hydroxydaunorubicin), lastly Neulasta which helps build his immune system and stimulates the growth of white blood cells.
Nick will need at least 6 cycles of this regimen. Beyond emotional and physical changes, he will need help with funding, medical bills, chemo, doctor visits, medications, lab work, preserving fertility etc.
Nick and our parents are facing one of life's most difficult challenges as well as the emotional toll on all of us. We feel helpless and want to support Nick with the financial burden of this illness that lays heavily on him. We are staying positive knowing this cancer has a good prognosis and treatable with today's modern medicine and tons of research.
He is our role model and we will remain by his side throughout the long road ahead of him. If you know Nick, then you know he is a fighter, a lover and is always there to help others. Currently, he has a very positive attitude and is determined to fight on and fight strong!
Thank you for your love and support and fighting this journey with us as a family! We will continue to post updates on Nick's progress.
Please share with your friends so we can support Nick as he fights this battle with cancer. Any and all excess will be donated back to cancer patients
With love for our brother,
Andrew & Lucas Montanari
