Support Lianne through her Breast Cancer Journey

Donation protected
My sister Lianne Ketcheson is a single mom who has been blind sided with a rare form of breast cancer.

Lianne’s story started August of 2018, when she found a lump in one of her breasts.  She went to her doctor and with some delay in the system she was scheduled for a mammogram and ultrasound, at which time a biopsy was also taken during that visit.  The diagnosis was a rare, aggressive type of breast cancer called, Triple Negative Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (Grade 3).  It requires an aggressive treatment plan that extends 9 months.  The goal is to shrink the tumor for surgery, with 16 weeks of Chemo, followed by most likely a full mastectomy of both breasts.  Followed by 16 daily sessions (3 weeks) of radiation in Victoria, 2 hours away from her home town Nanaimo.  At which time she must stay in Victoria, as the radiation causes fatigue, too much to drive the 2 hours each way.

Following each chemo treatment she must give her self injections that will build up her immune system and white blood count to fight off infection. The combination of chemo and the injections come with many difficult side effects that Lianne endures on a daily basis as she takes care of her son and herselfwhile trying to keep things as normal as possible at home.

We have found after much research and guidance from the social worker at the Cancer Clinic that there is very little funding available and Lianne’s employer did not have long term leave benefits.  Employment Insurance sick leave is only 15 weeks.  The week before she found the lump, she had set appts to add critical illness to her life insurance policy but was denied by her new carrier as they considered her to have a pre-existingcondition as there was a lump found.  The same thing happened when she tried to utilize the disability insurance she pays for on her vehicle.

Join me in helping her alleviate the financial stress of meeting her financial obligations, care expenses, travel, medications, etc. during the months of her treatment, so she can focus on her recovery.

I love my sister and my hope is that we can all get together and support her in any way possible.
