Eden Powers Cancer Fund

On Monday, July 1st, my sweet one-year-old niece, Eden Powers, was admitted to the hospital for virus-like symptoms, only to discover that what was happening in her body was something far more alarming and deadly. After running a series of tests, doctors discovered a sizable, malignant tumor in the frontal lobe of her brain. They performed emergency surgery  to remove the mass on Tuesday, July 2nd, and after 4+ agonizing hours of waiting, she was moved to her own room in the PICU where she was finally able to hold down some fluids. Her surgeon is confident that they were able to remove as much of the cancer as they could, which was our one fragment of good news all week. Regardless, this is the beginning of a very long and grim road for Eden and her family. She is currently resting, healing, and waiting for her body to be ready for the next steps.

As frightening and painful as this week has been for my brother Judah, his wife Evangelyn and little Eden, their situation will only grow more difficult as they dive deeper into treatment. The surgery they performed bought them time to assess and strategize the best plan moving forward, and though we are still waiting to hear back on specifics, this is what we know: due to the location and nature of the cancer, they need to act quickly. Because she is so young, she is not a candidate for radiation, which makes their only other option a particularly severe form of chemo therapy. This will be compromising to Eden's already weakened immune system, painful and debilitating.

We don't have a set timeframe for how long she will be fighting this, but we are most likely looking at a year of intensive treatment and a lot of unknowns in terms of the work and schedule situation for Evangelyn and Judah. Between the surgery, treatment, time off work, and general living support (including personal bills), the financial burden accumulating is staggering. Below is a rough estimate of their family's needs over the next year:

Brain Surgery: ~$200,000

Chemo: $15,000/month x 12 months of treatment = $180,000

One Year of Bills/Living Expenses: ~$50,000

- Current Insurance Plan Coverage: $180,000

That makes for a grand total of: $250,000

This Go Fund Me page gives us an easy and tangible way to bless Eden and her family as expenses stack up. This need is urgent and time sensitive. Please consider giving generously, and above all, pray for mercy on sweet Eden's life. Please note that donors will receive nothing in return for their donations. Thank you for your support
