Help support Eddies Kidney Cancer Battle

Donation protected
It’s with a heavy heart that I am starting this fundraiser for Eddie Alvarez; he’s not only my husband but my best friend. He’s the bond that holds us all up strong. He is a son that keeps his mother strong even when she feels defeated. He’s the brother that always protects. He’s the hero that our 17-year-old son looks up to, he’s the twinkle in our 6-year-old daughter's eye. He’s the uncle that makes our nieces and nephews laugh. He’s the friend that’s always there no matter what!

In January 2019, he noticed some pain in an unusual area that caused him to go see the doctor. A couple of days later I asked him how the doctors’ appointment went; he said fine and that he wasn’t in any pain anymore. Little did I know there was so much more going on. A couple of months passed and few scans were done; his doctor said they found some abnormalities. He was told that it looked like he possibly had a tumor on his kidney. At this point, Eddie decided it was a good time to tell me. I remained calm and hopeful that everything would clear up. I also made sure that I was at every appointment to support him. After another month and more scans, blood work, urine samples, and X-rays we received the bad news. On Monday, June 3, Eddie was diagnosed with kidney cancer. He has a cancerous cyst on his kidney which would require him to lose his whole kidney. The cyst has continued to grow since his first few scans. They also noticed a nodule in his chest that could possibly be caused by kidney cancer. However, they did tell us that the nodule is not growing and at this point was not a concern. It will be monitored the rest of his life just to make sure it doesn’t turn into cancer as well. The doctor instructed us to not wait any longer than two months for him to have this surgery. We know that Eddie is strong and can live a good life with just one kidney. We are hopeful and positive and truly grateful that his other kidney is in good condition and that the cancer hasn’t spread anywhere else.

If you know Eddie, then you know this isn’t easy for him. He works hard to provide for our family; so asking for assistance is not easy. The surgery cannot take place until his medical deductible has been met, this is $5,000. The medical bills that come after the surgery are in addition to this. Surgery after care will include scans, office visits, etc. As you know, this adds up quickly. He will also be required to recover for 6 weeks after the surgery; he’ll be out of work during this time. Please know that every contribution will be appreciated, any amount is helpful. Eddie has two children who look up to him and depend on him; they need him healthy, strong and worry-free. He’s a truly good and caring man; for those of you that don’t know Eddie, just know that he would give the shirt off his back for anyone in need. Thank you for the support and please keep the prayers coming; without our faith we would have nothing!
