Aaron Agustin was a shy, quiet, and healthy young man. He is a Lutacaga 6th grader in the Dual Language program. Aaron loved to play soccer and could always be found out on the field before school and at recess time. Aaron has been known this year for making his class laugh and for the progress he has been making.
In October 2018 he started to not feel himself, and things took a turn for the worst on October 18th. Aaron was too ill to come to school. His parents took him to the clinic in Othello, they sent him on to the hospital, and he was quickly transferred to Sacred Heart Children hospital in Spokane. Aaron's health continued to decline rapidly as the doctors worked diligently to determine what was causing him to become so ill.
They have discovered that Aaron has a very serious condition called HLH. He has been undergoing many treatments. His platelet levels and white blood cell levels are thing that are continuing to cause him issues. On 12/21/2018 Aaron had surgery to remove a tumor by his heart. The doctors believe that removing this will help him to continue his road to recovery.
Aaron has three siblings. Adriana, 18, Senior at OHS. Israel, 16, Sophmore at OHS. Tatiana, 7, Second Grader at Lutacaga. His parents are Claudio and Josefina Agustin. His family has not left his side. His parents have not been able to work since October 18th. Supporting their home and paying the bills is becoming a struggle, but they do not want to leave their child. Family, friends, and Lutacaga staff have supported the family by bringing Aaron's siblings back and forth to the hospital. We have also done our best to provide them with food as we can.
We are encouraged by Aaron's progress.
