Help student survivor with expenses

Donation protected
DePaul students received a Public Safety email this morning which stated:

"On Tuesday, April 10th at approximately 10:53pm a person was attacked on the 1200 block of west Webster Ave.  The person was walking east on Webster when approached from behind by the offender.  The person was grabbed from behind, placed in a choke hold, and stabbed.  The offender then ran and may have headed east on Webster."

This was actually a friend of mine, who is also a DePaul student. While at this time she wishes to keep her name and face private, I thought it was important to share her story. Tuesday night while she was walking home from work, she was grabbed and stabbed multiple times by an unknown attacker. The man who attacked her ran after she started screaming, and the couple that lived in the house she was in front of took care of her until the ambulance came. They still have not found or identified the person that did this.

Wednesday the doctors realized there was something seriously wrong with her right hand, and took her into surgery. It seems that during the attack, the knife had sliced into her wrist and cut all of the ligaments in her hand, and part of the nerve that controls sensation in the fingers. The surgery was able to repair the ligaments, and with intensive physical and occupational therapy she should have full control of her hand. They also repaired the nerve, but they will not know if she will regain sensation in her fingers until about 6 months from now.

While physically we hope she will be recovering fully, we know that this will be a financial burden that will last much longer than the injuries. Without insurance, the cost of the ambulance, surgery, hospital stay, and physical therapy are going to be extremely high. We do not know the costs of everything yet, but in addition to the care of her friends and family she is going to need monetary support.

Please take some time to donate, and share the link to this page. Any amount helps.

Thank you.
