Help Stock the New Suzybuzz Classroom

Hi Friends,

So, I was hesitant to do this; I'm happy and healthy. But after over 6 months of being a long term substitute teacher and after 2 years of being in graduate school, my tutoring biz is not growing at the rate that it was due to time constraints, so my budget to furnish my new classroom is non-existent.

The good news is I have an amazing new job at Medford High School as an English Language Arts Special Education teacher. Those of you who have the privilege of reading my copious number of Facebook posts know that it has been a long road from the first Master's, to the gig economy at various colleges,  to private schools, to a second Master's in education. It's paying off! I'm so excited to teach a diverse student body with an awesome group of colleagues at Medford High.

Public school is fantastic in so many ways: more protections for those with disabilities, more diversity, and better benefits. One way that it isn't so good is in the number of supplies it provides new teachers (no laptop, no visiting the admin to ask him/her to order what I need); I think I get some pens and pencils and manila folders when I arrive.

However, the expectation is that my classroom will be a well-organized, cheerful, and inviting place where students learn and thrive. I am tasked with furnishing my new classroom, buying supplies for my students, as well as purchasing supplies for myself to be a functional and prepared teacher.  Money will be tight for a few months as my salary catches up to my investment in grad school and subbing.

I made an Amazon wish list for which the total amount came to $825!! I know I can probably find some of these items cheaper (s'up, Costco and Dollar Store), so I'm setting the campaign at $500.  I also hope to score some loot from the BuyNothingSomerville site, though time is of the essence.

Thanks for believing in me during this mid-career transition, and my kids thank you as well! I'm going to take before and after pics and will post them if I can.

Here's my Amazon wishlist so you know what you'd be buying:
