Help Steve & Henry Light Up Malawi

Donation protected

We take electricity for granted, but when I went to Malawi Africa I discovered that Pastor Henry and my new friends at the Mthandiza (pronounced:  m –tan-deez-ah) Church and Primary School didn’t have any.  Imagine if your kids or grandkids had to go to a school with no electricity – imagine if your church had no electric power!  That means no lights, no running water (no pumps), no refrigeration,  no computers, no sound systems.  That’s what all the hundreds of kids and the thousands (yes – thousands!) of churchgoers face every day at this church and primary school center in rural Malawi. (Malawi is in sub-Saharan Africa and is among the poorest countries in the world. The school is open to all the children in the area. Almost all the primary and secondary schools in Malawi are run through government and church partnerships.  The government staffs the schools provides the curriculum, while the churches own and maintain the facilities.)
Here is Pastor Henry and his wife on his first day at Mthandiza Church.  2000 people sitting on the floor!

The good news is that the main electric lines are not that far away, about half a mile.  For just $12,900 we can put in poles, install a transformer and run wires, bringing electricity to the church and school.  That means we can turn on the lights, pump the water from the well, keep the food fresh, and connect to the internet – all for less than the cost of a used car.  The work will be done by The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM), but has to be paid for first. The primary school -no water -no electricity.

In 2018, I want to go back to Malawi with a team from my church, bring the money, and with Pastor Henry,  celebrate the light of Christ by turning on the lights!  Every donation will help. Will you pitch in?  It will mean the world to me – and more importantly to these deserving friends in Africa!
This is me with Pastor Henry (red sweater) and a church elder.  Pastor Henry's house has no electricity or running water.
