Help Save Midway Prairie Dogs!

A beautiful colony of prairie dogs is facing annihilation if Broomfield's Open Space and Trails along with their City Council does not ensure that 10 - 15 acres of available land on the Great Western Reservior Open Space is secured for their relocation.

As we continue to witness the extermination of colony after colony up and down the Front Range of Colorado to make room for more development, it is absolutely essential to protect and preserve the last remaining prairie dog communities that are increasingly in the line of fire. Not only are the populations of this keystone species down to less than 2% of their historic numbers, but government officials and numerous roadblocks are ensuring that the genetic diversity and remaining populations along the Front Range will soon be gone if we don't intervene and insist on their survival.

This colony is currently living off of Midway and Lowell Boulevard in Broomfield. These prairie dogs are trying to survive the increasing onslaught of the rapid growth of human development that is closing in on them. A prairie dog advocate that lives next to this colony watched in horror as their neighbors to the South were gassed to death a few short months ago. With a broken heart, she built up the strength to commit to saving this colony before it is too late for them. The clock is ticking as a development is in the beginning stages of approval with the City and the Midway prairie dogs' days are numbered.
