If you're reading this, you may know that I'm training to become a counsellor. In fact, I'm just at the end of my Level 3 course, and it's not only been really enjoyable but I'm doing really well at it too. I've now passed all the assignments for this stage of the course, and the feedback that I've received for my practical work (this involves practising Talking Therapy in my study group) is amazingly encouraging. This all points towards the possibility that maybe, just maybe, I've finally worked out what I want to be when I grow up. This has taken nearly 40 years, and it feels good to be on the right track.
In September 2019, Level 4 begins, and this is where it gets serious; it's a 2-year course, and when I finish that I will receive a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, alongside a bonus qualification in Transactional Analysis. With these certificates, I will be able to start working as a counsellor and helping people to live richer, happier, and more hopeful lives. That's the part I'm really looking forward to.
The problem (and the reason I'm on GoFundMe) is that while I study, I can't work full time, and this means that paying for the course is very difficult indeed. In fact, Level 4 in total costs more than I'm asking for here; I would feel greedy if I asked for the whole amount, but I do need to find some support in order to pay for the whole thing.
To give you a sense of what I'm talking about, here are the costs over the next 2 years:
- Each year the course fees are £2700 (so that's £5,400 over two years)
- A requirement of the course is that I receive 40 hours of therapy, which costs £30 per hour. (So that's an extra £1200)
- I will also be working as a Counsellor In Training, for which I will need to pay for monthly supervision. Again, this costs roughly £30 per session, over 10 months. (So that's another £300).
This brings the grand total that I will be spending to.. (Yikes).. £6,900.
A lot of this cost is spread over the two years, but I do need to pay the fees for year 1 from September, which comes to £243 each month.
There is no way that I can say a big enough Thank You to anybody who gives to this appeal - even the smallest donation will be received with enormous gratitude, and will ultimately go towards helping people everywhere; and that's not just the money - I bring hope, positivity, compassion, dedication, and a genuine desire to help people to my training, all of which is necessary for the makings of a good therapist. This is why I'm here - in the hope that people will help me to help people, and for that I thank you more than you will ever know.
