Help Sam and Ashley become parents!

Our journey with infertility began four years ago after we got married and didn't see a positive pregnancy test after a few months of trying to conceive on our own.  This went on for the whole first year before we decided to make an appointment with our OBGYN.

After having an HSG test performed we found that Ashley's tubes were normal and not causing infertility. Then with her help we got pregnant after trying for another year.  Unfortunately, when we went to our first 10 week appointment, the ultrasound showed that Baby Trahan #1 had stopped growing around 8 weeks.  At this point, we made the decision to wait for it to pass naturally.  Three weeks later, nothing had happened so the doctor recommended that we take medication to help the process along since it should have passed within the first two weeks.  This medication made Ashley very sick, which lead her to the ER where a doctor had to manually deliver the fetus.   This is where we encountered our first of many tragedies along our journey with infertility. We still have Baby Trahan #1 with us, not just in memory but also inside a beautiful urn.

Our next step was working with our NP (Nurse Practitioner)  who placed Ashley on Clomid for six rounds in one year.  Within three of those rounds, we had two unsuccessful IUI's (artificial inseminations).  We finally had a successful IUI after a year on this track.  Again, this ended in heartache as Baby Trahan #2 didn't grow passed seven weeks.  This time we decided to skip all the trauma of waiting for it to pass naturally and scheduled a DNC (where the fetus would be surgically removed).  This process turned out to be just as heartbreaking. Now our shelf has two beautiful souls resting on it.

We made the hard decision to change our direction and make an appointment with an infertility specialist.  At that time, she did not find anything alarming with either of us.  So she recommended we keep going on the IUI path.  This time, we would instead use injectable medication over the course of seven months in which we experienced two failed IUI's.  After the second failure, we came to the realization that the next procedure would be our last and our next step would be IVF.  At this point  going into the IUI, we had set our mind on starting the IVF process, should it not take, because honestly we thought why would this one be any different.  To our surprise it resulted in a positive pregnancy test and we were on the top of the world.  Of course, that was short lived because when we went in for blood work just a week later it showed that Baby Trahan #3 had already stopped growing.  A third infant angel was now flying high above us.

After four years of battling infertility, three miscarriages, and around $20,000 (on a Teacher and Chef's salary) already spent in trying to start our family, we are now beginning the process of IVF which we hope to start in December of  2019.  IVF has a much higher success rate than anything we have tried before but with that success rate comes a high price tag of an estimated $25,000.  We have already started saving up for this and will also be taking out a small loan.  Unfortunately, we will still come up short which is why we are reaching out to our friends, family,
and commuinty to help us have our Rainbow Baby.  We would be extremely grateful and appreciative of any amount donated to help us start our family.  If you are not in the position to financially support us, please share our page and keep us in your thoughts.

Sincerely,
Sam and Ashley Trahan
