Help Ruby's GITMO Cats

Donation protected

We have worked with Pilots N Paws to make the airlift happen this weekend!  The Navy, including the base at Guantanamo Bay have worked with Operation Git-Meow and Pilots N Paws and all the generous contributors, the base Vet Clinic, and base volunteers to take all Ruby's cats to their new home on Sunday May 14th!  The funds will be used to pay for expenses such as insurance, landing fees, aircraft fuel, and other costs.  We will post photos on Sunday from Guantanamo as the cats fly off to their forever home.

Help Ruby’s 30 Beloved Cats “Escape From Guantanamo Bay”!

Unlike the fictional Harold and Kumark, these cats have had happy lives at Guantanamo Bay, but now it’s time to immigrate to the USA for good!

Ruby has been rescuing cats at the US Naval Station at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for the past 12 years while working on the Base as a government contractor.  Ruby has taken in cats that were sick, were abandoned by their owners, as well as feral cats needing a safe home.  She has done this all at her own expense, including paying for food, shelter, spaying and neutering, and all their veterinary care.  But now Ruby is leaving Guantanamo to retire in South Carolina where she has a property which will accommodate all her cats.  Unfortunately, the rules to transport pets from the Naval Station at Guantanamo Bay are very restrictive and very expensive-nearly $1000 per pet just to fly them to Florida.  The only way Ruby can get all her beloved cats to their new home in South Carolina is to charter a small aircraft to fly them there, which will cost $20,000- money she does not have.  Ruby has saved hundreds of cats over the years and she really needs help from all animal lovers to cover the costs.  Even getting all her cats to the airstrip will require many volunteers from Operation Git-Meow and the base to help get her cats into their carriers and to get all the carriers loaded on the aircraft, but everyone wants to help the woman who has helped so many others.

She needs to fly her cats off Guantanamo Bay by mid-May 2017, so we need to raise the money for her as soon as possible to contract for the charter flight.

Here are some of Ruby’s adorable cats and their stories!

This is T-3.  He showed up as a scrawny kitten about 5 years ago and would sneak in to steal food.  With a lot of love and patience he has now become a great loving cat.

This is Pepe who is 9 years old.  He is one of the “4 Horsemen” because he and his 3 brothers used to stomp around the house like a herd making lots of noise when they were kittens!

Here is Boo, but don’t say his name too loudly or he will wake up!

Here is the lovely Morticia.  While her namesake may prefer darkness, this girl loves the sun!  She just showed up at Ruby’s door about 4 years ago and made herself at home.  She wraps everyone around her little paws because she is such a sweet cat!  In the second photo Morticia is with her pal, Droopy!

Here is Diablo, who was abandoned at the age of 2 by his human owner when they left the base.  It took 4 people to catch him, and over time he has become a very talkative and cuddly boy who loves his food!  Diablo is typical of many Cuban cats who look black but are actually a very deep brown like the famed “Havana Brown” breed of cats.
