Help repatriate Silvia to Zimbabwe

£4,212 of £3,000 goal

Raised by 243 people in 4 months

On Tuesday 12th February 2019, Silvia Mafuta left her home in Walsall to go to work for a night shift caring for an elderly person. When the morning relief arrived on Wednesday 13th, Silvia was found collapsed and unresponsive. The emergency services were called and Silvia was pronounced deceased on arrival at the hospital. Silvia was 36 years old and survived by 3 children: 2 daughters aged 14 and 12 and a son aged 6. She was divorced and in addition to parenting her 3 children, she was also the breadwinner for family back home in Zimbabwe. My wife and I have been friends with Silvia and her family since around 2006 when she lived in Glasgow. We are appealing for funds to help repatriate the body of Silvia back to Zimbabwe so her parents and siblings can say goodbye and get closure by conducting the burial their late daughter deserves. Quotations for the repatriation are in the region of £3,000 and this is the primary amount we are trying to raise. If any monies over this figure are raised, these will go towards other funeral costs and towards helping the surviving family.

Hi, a quick update. I have requested for the funds donated to be transferred to my bank account. From there I will pay the repatriation fee. The remainder will be transferred to the family of Silvia to assist with various needs. I will post receipts of items purchased and evidence of funds transferred. Thank you once again.

Zion Christian Church (ZCC) will be holding a church service to bid farewell to Silvia on Saturday 2nd March 2019 from 12 noon to 4pm. The address is Hallam Street, Birmingham, B71 4HE at the Methodist Church Hall. All are welcome to join us as we celebrate Silvia's life. We also anticipate that her body will be flying to Zimbabwe next week for burial. A definitive date will be known once the death certificate is issued. Thank you all for your donations and support. God bless.

Firstly, a big heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed in any way, shape or form. Throughout the weekend many people from the community, churches (particularly ZCC where Silvia worshipped) visited the deceased's home in Walsall where mourners are gathered and passed their condolences. Yesterday, on Tuesday 19th February 2019, Silvia's uncle Mr Patrick Demawatema led a delegation to go and view the body at the mortuary. There they were also advised that the autopsy process will take roughly 10 working days. We therefore expect the body to be available for release at the earliest on Wednesday 27th February (possibly later depending on the autopsy) at which point a death certificate will be produced. The death certificate will enable the funeral director to commence the process of repatriation. CJ Reilly Funeral Services have been approached and have provided a quotation as attached to this update. The package that will be taken will depend on funds available, bearing in mind that the quotation does not take account of a funeral service being held in Zimbabwe or Silvia being transported to her final resting place. For now the focus is on comforting the children and supporting them as best as we can while we await a death certificate. Thank you again to everyone for your donations in money, time, efforts, thoughts and prayers. May the Lord bless you all.
