Help Renee Parrott Beat Cancer
A dear member of our Bristow Montessori School (BMS) community, Renee Parrott, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). We created this page to help raise money for Renee. We also wanted to raise awareness to this cause and this disease.
Renee was first diagnosed with ALL in 2015. She is a hardworking, single mom with a sweet, energetic five-year-old son, Brett. Renee has done her best to shoulder the burden of this illness on her own. After missing several months of work due to treatments, we at BMS want to do everything we can to help her. Renee certainly goes above and beyond at BMS. She is an active volunteer that has taken on the reorganziation of our library and also reads to the children. The children love when Ms. Renee stops by to say hello and read them a story.
It can be hard for someone battling this disease to deal with the physical, emotional and financial hardships brought on by their illness especially as a single parent. Our goal is to show our support as a community and raise money to help alleviate some of that financial burden, so Renee can focus on healing. We know that every little bit helps. With the money raised by the love and support of her friends, family, community and all of you silent supporters out there, we hope to lift her spirits by alleviating some of this financial pressure.
A Little bit about Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is a cancer of the bone marrow and blood. ALL affects the blood cells and immune system and it progresses rapidly without treatment. ALL results from either an acquired or genetic injury to the DNA of a developing stem cell in the bone marrow. This damaged cell becomes a leukemic cell and multiplies uncontrollably into billions of cells called leukemic lymphoblasts. As a result, the number of healthy blood cells (red cells, white cells and platelets) is usually lower than normal, putting the patient at risk of anemia, neutropenia and thrombocytopenia.
