HELP REED LYNN DARILEK

Donation protected
Friends, family, everyone, please meet Reed Lynn Darilek. This precious baby was born April 30, 2018 to the Darilek family of Brodie, Regina and big brother, River. Weighing only 3 lbs and 4 oz. at birth.

Regina experienced a normal pregnancy but was apprehensive when at 33 and ½ weeks Reed decided to enter the world. Delivered by emergency c-section it was immediately determined that Reed had a long road ahead of him and he was taken by helicopter to Driscoll Children’s Hospital in corpus. Reed had lung, heart, urinary problems along with other defects and challenges to his little body. Being premature meant his lungs were not well enough developed and he was diagnosed with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (under developed lungs) requiring oxygen. In addition, he had a list of diagnoses that would require multiple procedures and surgeries.

Reed had surgery on his heart in May for an atrial septal defect. As a result of his prematurity normal heart development and blood flow for blood to get to his organs and lungs had not had the time to complete. This surgery corrected a hole in the wall of the dividing chambers of his heart, and closed the connection between his aorta and pulmonary artery. This allows proper blood flow to the lungs.

In July, Reed underwent surgery to correct micrognathia, which is characterized by an undersized jaw and a symptom of a craniofacial condition. The condition creates apnea in infants and Reed had a jaw distraction surgery on 7-06-2018 to slowly increase the size of his jawline and oral soft tissues in order to move the tongue forward in his airway.

At birth it was determined he suffered from bladder exstrophy. Bladder exstrophy is a congenital anomaly that is complex and most notably involves a defect in the abdominal wall allowing the bladder to protrude.  Coupled with the rare congenital urinary tract abnormality of epispadias that is affecting the urethra, Reed will be faced with multiple surgeries to correct these conditions before he could be released from the hospital.

Reed has also been diagnosed with ROP and Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome. ROP is a disease of the eye affecting prematurely born babies. While it is mild and should resolve spontaneously, Reed has been found to have it affecting both of his retina. He will continue to be monitored for retina development.

Brodie and Regina remain in Corpus Christi with Reed. They are able to stay at Driscoll Hospital in a family guest room and spend every day with Reed. Brodie goes back and forth for work when scheduled, but Regina is no longer working.

Reed is loved dearly by us all and we are all doing everything they can for him. The medical staff is great – but we need your help!!!  Most needed is  monetary donations to meet medical expenses and  living expenses while staying in Corpus and not working.

Please give whatever you can. Reed has a long road ahead of him that includes lengthy medical care, procedures, and surgeries – he will have another jaw surgery in September as well as a list of others. The prognosis is that Reed will require a feeding tube when he leaves the hospital and years of therapies and treatment to walk, talk and develop. But with your help (no donation is too small) Reed can have the care and support he needs.
