Help our Playground!

Welcome to the GoFundMe for upgrades to Confluence - South City's  playground.

I was looking for a fun project this summer since I'm one of the few 12 month employees at the school and things can get very lonely. So I asked some teachers for their input and it was unanimously decided that if we could help improve our playground, everyone at the school could benefit. In case you don't believe that our playground is in dire straits, please take a look at this depressing image:


Students have been complaining so much about the lack of playground resources that a 5th grader wrote an article in our school newspaper that included the following:

"Students at Confluence Academy South City (CASC) want more
recess equipment. There are not a lot of things to do.  People are always bored because not everyone plays sports outside like basketball or soccer,” says Meiyah a 5th grade student.  CASC should get more recess supplies for those who don’t play sports. Currently, there is only a soccer ball, one basketball, and hopscotch to play with. Many
students don’t really do anything because they don’t take an interest
in those activities. "

As much as we'd love to install some heavy duty items to improve our playground, our hands are tied because we don't own our building, and we have some pretty strict rules in place about what we can do with our building.

There is one major thing we can do, and that's paint our playground, and purchase fun supplies for our kids to enjoy their recess time with. 

We've had two group meetings to nail down how we'd like to paint the playground and we realized very quickly that a coat of paint will have a massive impact. Here are some things we'd like to do:



The funds for this project will go towards not only painting these games, but repainting a very sad hopscotch, and painting over our nonexistent basketball court lines. Additionally, funds will be used to purchase fun supplies for our kids to use when they're outside, like additional basketballs and soccer balls, bowling pins, four square balls, sidewalk chalk, beanbags and other fun toys depending on how much we raise. Moreover, we would like to recruit a local artist who has experience painting outdoors to help us outline as much as possible, and we as a group will also paint as much as we can.

Not only will these upgrades benefit our 500 students who live all over South City but they will also benefit the neighborhood kids who are NOT our students who consistently use our playground to play basketball after school and on weekends. 

We certainly don't need the full amount to accomplish our main goal, but every extra penny will go towards continuously replenishing supplies and purchasing new fun outdoor games so that our 500 students will always have outdoor activities!
