The Optimist Club of St. Jacobs is raising money for Grand River's NICU this fall. The NICU is in need of several items for our tiniest and most vulnerable citizens. We hope to be able at least purchase a couple of High Flow Respirators. We are also taking donations at St. Jacobs Sparkles in St. Jacobs Nov 15 and 16 in front of Scotia Bank in the evenings.
15 years ago my twins were NICU patients at Grand River and the care there is outstanding. Grand River needs our help in obtaining more medical equipment to help our tiniest citizens!
The full list of needs are as follows:
High Flow Respiratory Support/ CPAP Machines – approximately $5,000 each
High Flow Respiratory Support provides safe respiratory support for preterm infants with respiratory distress and decreases the stress of effort needed to breathe. It reduces the rate of nasal trauma and infant pain scores. Grand River Hospital currently has two of these on loan from London and Guelph until we are able to replace ours.
Nara Bassinet – approximately $5,000 each
The nara bassinet plays an important role in the delivery of care to newborns. The narrow cabinet design helps to promote mother-to-infant closeness from the bedside. Additionally, the basket was specifically designed to improve visibility, eye contact, and interaction for mothers to their newborns. Grand River Hospital still has a need for more nara bassinets in our children’s program.
OR & Childbirth Operating Room Tables – approximately $23,000 each
Deliveries in the operating room require specific operating tables to properly perform the procedure.
